Today as I was getting window tint installed (pictures in my window tint thread) I noticed some bubbled paint along the front edge of my hood, in one of the corners where it points around the grill. Pictures attached. Follow @elviram

Is this rust? Or a deformity?? 2015 RAM Sport, thankfully warranty still intact. In the middle of a move so I will have to take it in... again at my next destination.

Has anyone seen this?

not 100% sure about the sport hood, but the regular hoods are aluminum. I have seen another post(can't remember which forum though) about the hood paint bubbling up but it was closer to the middle.

Hard to tell from the pic but it sure looks like corrosion under the paint to me. I would definitely take it in.

Is that paint coming off or metal going AWOL? Factory hoods are aluminum, so wont rust like steel.
If you're losing metal however, its probably bi-metallic corrosion: steel and aluminum in contact with an electrical current (like a ground), or the presence of acid or another electrolyte to make a galvanic circuit. If its just paint coming off something else is going on.

Yeah I don't know what it is. I saw a very small spot, small than the size of a pencil eraser months ago. I didn't really think of it then, but now it has grown.

Ram Cares can always chime in if they like.... Pretty busy this month but I will be taking the truck in for the water leaking out of the driver's side handle a couple weeks ago as well.

Aluminum will still corrode and it's white. I bet if you to take that paint off there is corrosion there for sure. There has been threads in the past about corrosion in the exact spot on the aluminum hoods. People, including me, were spraying fluid film in the holes underneath the hood in that general area to prevent that from happening.

Eco friendly paint has been a common problem since they went to it. I don't recall which year but a lot more complaints since they did.

Take it in to the dealer. It is covered by warranty . If the corrosion wraps under the hood to the underside and into the seam the hood Should be replaced under warranty . Don't accept a repair and repaint !! It will come back. Just did my 2012 (covered under 5 yrs )

Just found the same thing on my 2014. Super pissed bc I know it will spread. Mines small at the moment at the pass front edge by the headlight

Did you only accept a new hood?

My hood is doing the same thing. Have a spot on the front lip near grill and headlight. Also on the drivers side, the very edge where it makes the 180 degree bend back under the hood, has lost its paint. If you look in the seam when hood is closed you can start to see it.

ram cares - Andrea,

The dealership took pictures. I stopped by the body shop today and they said they've seen this before. The estimator said it is corrosion. He said that somebody probably touched that part of the hood on the assembly line.

I highly doubt that because I've seen the exact same issue in that exact same spot over the last few years on the RAM forums. They better fire "that assembly line guy" really really soon!

Yeah the body shop guy said something about the coating on the bare aluminum and oil and contaminants on human hands.... in short something touched the hood and contaminated that small spot on the hood prior to painting causing the corrosion and it grew under the paint.

He said the same thing happened to his hood on his Ford truck.

I dunno man. I just nod my head yes.
