I've been debating turning my chrome bumpers, front and rear, black on my '16 HD Tradesman CTD. I do have a black billet grille (haven't update my avatar picture yet) and I am going to put a black Westin Sprotsman's Grille Guard/ Winch Mount with a 12,000-pound Smittybuilt winch. (have the grille guard and winch, just haven't had a chance to put it on.) I guess if I am going to do it the time would be before I install the grille guard/winch mount. I was thinking Plasti Dip to accomplish this but then I wasn't too sure about how it would hold up, especially in an occasional off-road environment. Also, I have the factory chrome clads and if I do change them out for custom wheels it won't be until the present set of tires wears out which probably won't be for at least two years or more (based on my usual driving mileage). I know I could Plasti Dip the wheels too but I'm thinking that would be a lot of work and the off-road environment would be even worse on the wheels. I'm kind of leaning toward just leaving the bumpers and wheels chrome since they'd at least match that way.

So, should I stay chrome on the bumpers or black them out? Also, any other options that won't break the bank, or require the bumpers be removed, that I should consider to black them out if I go that route?

Do it.

Apply enough coats and it'll last a good while....especially if you only occasionally go offroad.

I did paint match linex. Cost me $500 and I took the bumpers off myself and took them to shop. They would have charged a lot more if I did not take bumpers off.

I don't personally care for the all blacked-out look myself, but whatever floats yer boat, go for it!

I blacked out both my bumpers & grill with plastic-dip (I hate chrome)
. One year ago now and still holding up good. I'd say go for it!

Ok, thanks for the opinions. Started today PD'ing the front bumper. Probably do the rear tomorrow (if things work out where I have time) and then install the grille guard/winch mount and winch (hopefully) by the end of the week. I am going to PD the wheels too but that might have to wait a few weeks.

Got the front and back bumper done and they came out great. Put the Westin Grille Guard /Winch mount and a 12K Smittybilt winch on it. (check the new avatar) I'll be doing the wheels soon.

My bighorn is covered in chrome and when I bought it, I was planning to black it out. As well whomever owned it before me removed all the badges and blacked out the front and rear rams heads. Since then Ive bought the badges and new rams heads back in chrome. It grew on me and Im returning it to its reflective glory.

Dude, thanks so much for posting this! I was wondering what metallic silver color-match would look like with Linex. Looks awesome. They did a great job for you.
