I just noticed a deep scratch on the edge of my stock rim (20 inch chrome on a 2015 bighorn), likely from that machine that takes the tires off the rim. It looks like the sharp edges are digging into the tire. Anyone have the same issue? Is it safe to drive with this? I'm paranoid about the tire exploding. Thinking about taking it to the local mechanic and seeing if he can grind down the edges for a temporary fix.

If I need a new rim, any suggestions on where to find them? Looked on ebay but they are all used and scratched. Other websites didn't have much.

I could be wrong but I don't think the tire changing machine could scratch it like that.

That rim has been curbed or something. Go to a rim repair shop or just find a used one. They are everywhere online.

Maybe if it was a really old machine, but by the looks of it that's more then likely curb damage.

Can you prove that the tire shop caused the damage? Is the tire touching the jagged portion of the wheel?

I bought it CPO a month ago and didn't notice it. I haven't hit any curbs since I have owned it. Yes, the tire is touching the jagged part.

If the tire and wheel were mine, I would keep driving until I found a replacement wheel

Is it worth it to repair it or should I look at getting another rim?

I would look for a replacement wheel. Trying to find a wheel repair shop that will repair the wheel for less than the cost of a used wheel is going to be tuff.

not likely.if it were that easy to just get another one there wouldn't be so many wheel repair shops around.i don't know about your area, but around here they want 2 k for a set of takeoffs, and highly unlikely to split up a set.

Go to the dealer and see if they will work with you. I would try to work in a set of tires to because those look pretty dry rotted.

Rim definitely curbed at some point. That's not tire machine damage. Also damage happened prior to that tire being mounted (no scuffs on sidewalk). Does that tire match the other 3 in make, model, and wear, because I'm betting it was replaced, likely when that wheel was curbed that hard. Also Passive Agressor is correct, that tire is dry rotted and should be replaced in any case.

Does that tire hold air? Looks like it was run flat on the rim

Yeah I've had no issues with it. It isn't brand new either, like others have suggested is a possibility

I agree, definitely did not happen with that tire on there. That's a pretty bad gouge. To curb a rim that hard it would knock the alignment way out.....maybe other things too. Hopefully that was corrected when the current tires were mounted. I'm kind of surprised a tire shop mount tires on a rim with that sharp edge on it.

No machine did that. More like a curb did that.

Here is a nice way to take care of that without spending big bucks and protect your rims in the future. We just became an authorized dealer for AlloyGator. We install them on our new Hondas and sell them in our service dept as well. You can do just blk or color rings to give your vehicle some bling..

I agree with this being a high possibility. Plus, with the cracking on the side wall that tire is looking pretty beat for only being a few years old.
