So i know the low/high beams need can-bus/capacitors and the turn signals and brake/reverse bulbs need resistors etc. But i could have sworn i seen somewhere on here that atleast for the 09-12 Rams that the canbus system does not monitor the fog lights so therefore you dont need any special adapters or capacitors like the headlights.

So basically can i throw in any fan cooled H10/9145 LED bulb into my fog lights without needed any anti-flicker can-bus adapter/capacitors?

Can someone who knows or has installed led bulbs themselves please answer me. I want to order some led bulbs with the cooling fans on them for my fogs but i need to know if i should buy the adapters aswell.

Thanks.

Yes. You need the anti flicker module. I ordered my LED Foglight for my 2015 Ram 1500 Express through diode dynamics. The anti flicker comes separate. Without it the leds won't turn on. b46e98a141fe0c02378f10d59563dead.jpg

I have installed several sets of hids. Leds are the same in regards to being too small a load for the headlamp circuits ( including fog lamps) and the will maybe light without the engine running, but flicker for the following reason.
The switch is in the on position, so it turns the lamp on.. Then the circuit with too small a load on it thinks the bulb is shorted out, and removes power, protecting the circuit and wiring.. The circuit then senses the switch is in the on position, etc.. This continues as a high speed back and forth. Whether you use an aftermarket relay harness or not you will need a resistor harness. If you use said harness, you only need resistors on one side; the one attached to the trucks original harness.. If you don't, you'll likely need resistor harnesses on both sides. I always have. I'll post this, and post another response with an Amazon link for the resistors. I'd love to be wrong on this because we're talking dog lights, but I don't think so.

Having read the post before mine, you might want to go with that.. Probably has a resistive load as well as a specialized capacitive circuit.

Yours is a 2015. Mine is a 2012. I know in 2015 they introduced a more indepth can-bus system that for hid kits requires alot of resistors and capacitors. The 2012 Rams are different. Thats why im thinking the 09-12 Rams dont need them for the fogs. I wish i could find the thread again where i read that.

Yea i know with hid's you need a bunch of resistors and capacitors. I already ordered my hid kit for my retrofit. I went with the Morimoto XB35 HID kit. But now im figuring out my fog light situation.

I know the Diode Dynamics LED bulbs are high quality but i dont want to spend $100+ on led bulbs for my fogs. Ive already spent hundreds on my retrofit kit for my headlights, i was trying to just put in a half decent $40-$60 led bulb for the fogs.

I guess ill just buy an H10 led bulb and then buy the h10 antiflicker capacitors that are sold on ebay.

I have a 2015 with OPT7 led bulbs....plug right into the factory plug, no can-bus adaptors necessary.

See i knew in 2013 they added the fog lights to the can-bus system. So 09-12 4th gens shouldnt need any canbus adapters.

2013... completely removed OEM fogs and tied in Rigid pods. No flicker or error messages.

Not sure about led's but my fog Hids did not need adapters. No flicker or any nonsense.

2012 like you.

Which opt7 do you have? FluxBeam? FluxBeam-X? Plasma series? Also, your talking about your fog lights correct?

So on my 2012 Ram i can just plug in a fan cooled led bulb with the driver and not need a antiflicker capacitor/adapter?

Thanks for your help.

Should be fine, on my 2016 I run a 55w hid kit with no canbus adapters or what not in my fogs

For future searches and questions...

So in my 2012 Ram 1500, when it comes to installing led bulbs in the fog lights, it turns out that I did NOT need any anti-flicker adapters, can-bus adapters, resistors or anything other then what came in the kit, the led bulbs and led drivers.

But when it comes to my H11 low beams and 9005 high beams, i needed the anti-flicker/can-bus adapters (sometimes also called ecm capacitors) for both to properly work.

Here are the Amazon $40 MostPlus 9005 LED bulbs.

Extremely happy... $40 well spent!

Silly question -

How much harm would it cause if you got the adapaters and used them if it wasn't needed?

Would this be just extra insurance to make sure they won't flicker or would it cause more harm to the electrical system/canbus?

in the 2015 up ram yes I have an led kit I'm putting in with can bus resistors they tested their system with a 2015 ram and it works.they posted videos to me before I purchased.
