I filled up my gas tank yesterday and when the pump kicked off I was at $49.56. I thought I'd try to get it up to $50 even and started giving short pulls on the lever like I've done a hundred times before. Next thing I know there's gasoline pouring down the side of my truck. I did what I could to wipe it off but when I got to my destination my fender had discolored where the gas was on it.

These are el cheapo flares and I have no idea what kind of plastic they're made of. I figured I'd ask for ideas before I start wiping things on it trying to rejuvenate the color. Nothing peeled off, just discoloration. Any ideas?

Aside from the damage to your flare, "topping up" is actually bad for your gas tank and breather tube.

You really should break the habit.

Gasoline is a solvent. Clean the rest of the flare off and it should look okay.

Hope you're able to get it off. The first thing I do when I spill any gas on the truck is get the window washing squeegee from the bucket and wipe the area down with it.
