I am trying to get some feedback and reviews from fellow Ram owners on options for Hard Tonneau's for my 2016 short bed crew cab. So far I am considering the Leer 550 and 700 as well as the Undercover Lux SE. Any suggestions or pictures are greatly appreciated!

I've had my Undercover since 2012. Great quality, fit and looks. I believe it is stronger than most hard covers. I stand on it all the time while washing my roof.

My Leer 500. Does a good job, paint matches and it doesn't leak. The only downside is that you can't carry anything over about 24" tall cause the lid won't close.(Although most coolers will fit)

It has a flat seal that works fairly good. I have some water that gets in during heavy rainstorms that I plan to address. On the back end of the cover I put some rubber seal from Home Depot to keep water out, now I just need to figure out where the rest of it comes from. Overall there isn't much water at all though.

I also have the bakflip and love it I do get a little water by the tailgate that comes in from the stake pockets. Im gonna see if i can get some caps for them. Besides that it seals up nice all the way around.

Here's a couple pics. You can see how it seals all the way around. Does a nice job but you can see the pockets exposed and it comes in right into the bed. I'm sure I can find some caps

I don't know what the limit is on the Undercover; for the Bakflip it was 300lbs but spread out. Not all in one location.

Does water get past that one though around the tailgate? Doesn't seem like it would seal very well?

I had a Bakflip on my F150. When I first got it, it sealed very well. It's got a rubber seal that runs all around the bed and as long as it sits flush on the bedrails and tailgate, it seals nicely.

The problem I ran into was that from being opened and closed regularly, the rubber gaskets between each of the panel seams, all slid to the right side of the cover. Once that happened, I consistently got water in the bed...not a ton, but there were definite wet spots inside.

I had an ARE LSII on my 2014 1500 with the 6' 4" bed. It is made very well, looks great and never had a leak in it. When I bought it, it cost $1200 including them installing it and tax.

The second thing I added (after a bedrug) was a RollBak G2 Retractable cover & I can't imagine having anything else....

I think the op is looking at fiberglass painted to match hard covers based on the two mentioned. I don't have a picture but I saw one on a ram today that was bungee strapped down with a snow blower sticking out of the bed and thought, man, I am sure glad I don't have that kind of cover!

I am looking at all rigid coves, but generally the fiberglass painted ones are the direction I am leaning. I have a tri-fold now and there is just too much water getting in to the bed when i want it dry. This is obviously made worse when it snows. I like the Undercover models from what i have read as they seem to be very light weight and come with hardware to hang them on the wall when not in use. The goal is to have a truck when i need a truck and put this cover on to have a sealed "trunk" when am taking the family on trips and need to pack luggage and stuff that the wife would be particularly displeased with getting wet

If you're thinking about taking the cover on and off, you need to know that the fiberglass ones are really heavy and take at least 2 people(maybe 3) to take off and re-install. IMHO it's a real pain in the ass to take off and put back on.

I got the retrax just so I don't have to take it off to put bigger stuff in. And I don't care for the fiberglass look

I have had the Undercover Classic for 2 years now. Has not leaked one drop. I take it through the car wash at least twice per month. I also live in the northwest on the "wet" side of the Cascade Mtns.

It is very strong and only weighs about 60lbs.

My truck bed acts as a massive trunk, which is exactly what I wanted. I carry a bunch of stuff around for work so this works perfect for me.

I have never had the need to take it off but it looks simple. 5 minutes.

I like that pine needles, dirt and leaves cannot collect which is a big deal for me because I park under fir trees.

The tree sap is a pain to clean off. But I guess that would be an issue with any cover.

The little light that comes with it does not light much. LEDs under the bed rails would be nicer.

The two little locks are durable but do freeze up in the cold rain/ice.

Snow nor rain are an issue otherwise.

When I purchased my truck it has the hard cover. Honestly I couldn't stand it. I have the soft roll up one from mopar now. Love it

It sounds like the Undercover is your best option. If you go with the painted version, you will have to be more careful taking it on and off. As for a Mopar cover, they just take other manufacturers product, jack up the price and put their name on it. So if you like it, save some money and buy it from the manufacturer instead of the dealership.
