I have Ram 1500's for 15 years but always had a 2 wheel drive. This time around I wanted to get a 4x4 and I ordered a 2016 off the internet and had it shipped to me from a dealer on ebay. Didn't even think about the height difference cause the tires were the same size as the ones on my current Ram.

Well embarrassingly I hate to say I can barely climb into the truck with my fat rear end and short legs. Does the factory usually raise the 4x4 like this? It's a Big Horn if that matters and can I take it to a mechanic and have it lowered a little bit? If I lower it, will I mess up anything or mess with the warranty?

I know I know, I should of went to the dealer and sat in one first but stupid me with this digital world we live in, we've got to where we order everything off the internet. I bought my wife's car from a dealer in New York and had it shipped so I figured why not get my truck the same way.

I'm embarrassed to take it to the local dealer and tell them I can't climb into it lol but right now it's a really big paper weight sitting in my driveway with 47 miles on it. Haven't driven it in 3 days, been using my old one.

I'm 6'0 and around 210 lbs and even though I don't really have trouble getting in my 2wd 1500 I still put steps on it. Great for the kids, great for the wife, great for when you want to clean your windshield. Just get a quality set of steps. I put mine on in my driveway in the dark while it was raining. Took about an hour with basic hand tools.

When my dad got his 1500, he said it was too high. I solved it with side steps.

Side steps as others have suggested. I got 4" raptor series wheel to wheel side steps.

you want to talk about tall? Picture me at 5'5" getting into my 2500 4x4 the first few times before I installed the side steps. Now that was a climb up! Lol

I love how she sits up though. I wouldn't change a thing about the ride height.

If you want a low rider 4x4, buy a Chevy. (One of the many things i didn't like about that 2015, 1500 Silverado )

Two options since it's a 4wd. Any of the multitude of side step options, there are lots of choices some with an additional step down if you want additional height or you can have a Ground Force 2"/3" lowering kit installed which will get you back down to the 2wd stock height.

Get the AMP powersteps installed, they drop down much lower than a fixed step and they retract when you close the door. It should solve your issue plus they are illuminated, wide and support 600 lbs each side. I put a set on my truck 3 days after I bought it.

My wife loves the ride height, and no issue with entry and she's about 5 feet tall wearing shoes and socks. She uses the factory solution...:happy107:

If you have the short bed DO NOT get OEM steps, ALL short bed models (even crew) have only two mounting brackets. Much better alternatives out there, even some models that attach to the frame.

This is not accurate. I have a crew cab short bed and my oem steps have three mounting brackets

Were you guys steps installed at the factory or dealership, maybe the dealer put aftermarket on?

Not sure how you got three brackets on OEM side steps, I have been round and round and have exhausted all my options. My steps do not even have holes midway. My Laramie Longhorn crew cab short bed came with wheel to wheel side steps and I have been pissed since day one that there are only two brackets, check out my thread: LINK

Even RAM Cares confirmed this, read this message:

Hi Scott,

My contact got back to me. After looking into this further your vehicle is a Crew 98 (140 wheel base) which comes with the OEM side steps with 2 brackets. If you would have gotten the Crew 91 (149 wheel base) you would have gotten the longer side step which would require the third bracket. Your vehicle is equipped with the correct OEM side step. My contact also sent over some images that help explain this, if you would like to provide your email address I'd be happy to send them to you.
