ICI Magnum RT step install

I'll make this into an install thread since I have not seen any online in my searching.

Do you need help? Or just making a general thread?

Two people make the job much easier...

Thats because it comes with instructions :)

IMO

The instructions they include are not very good IMO

At first I did when I created this thread but I figured it out, couldn't figure out how to delete so I figured I would do a simple install thread. Only two tools needed, pretty straight forward but why not?

I am curious for anyone who has these...

I got them put on last night and will post pics when I get home this eve. But mine have a slight curve to them that I think is not supposed to be there. For example the top of the main bar that butts up to the rocker panel touches in the middle but on either end there is a 1/4-3/8" gap??? I know pics will help but imagine you are standing there facing the side of your truck looking at the step. The two ends (one at front of driver door and the other at rear of passenger door) have the space. I figured a jack could help force one end up with the other firmly mounted already with the middle loose.

I know this may not matter to some but I personally would prefer a seamless gap. Steps are built very nice and solid. Not quite as solid as the ICI youtube vid but I'm sure that guy is 120lbs lol. I'm 235...So it has a little give when stepped on but nothing flimsy :) Overall I like them, not 100% sure yet if I like how they make my truck look but a lift would help definitely...

Im pretty sure mine are flush, all the way across. When I get my truck back in a day or two.. I'll take a pic for comparison. I know for a fact that they will swap them out for you, if yours are in fact bowed.

Yes they are technically bowed but not much. I just called ICI and they said they do have a slight curvature to them. He also told me it's touch on these Rams because the bottom where we mount them to have an opposite curve.

I did not think there was any curve on my truck down there, I'll check with a straight edge tonight. And take some pics...

I would hate to make a big deal out of nothing :)

Loading some pics now, I got some well enough with the webcam on my Mac...

And I would be interested to see a pic of yours :)

Yea I really like them :) First place was Amp Research tucking steps but like many I just couldn't muster myself to pay the 1100 ish. Usually you can find them for 1080 and they have a $100 gift card rebate for a brief amount of time but still. I got a set of American Racing long tube headers instead.

I ordered from Auto anything and they overnighted them to me lol for free. I would have told someone dont throw away money on overnight shipping on a 80lb, 96" box! Oh well.

I was thinking about using a jack with a piece of wood to protect the black powder coating. Very very carefully pushing up after losing bolts then tighten them down. Too much pressure obviously can cause body damage but trying it with light to medium force does anyone see an issue with that? I think I can close the gap slightly...I mean I could even lay directly under it and essentially bench press it up and have my wife tighten the bolts down...Just thinking out loud :roflsquared:

@Bogsram14 how do you like your Magnaflow muffler? I must have watched 100+ youtube vids of diff sounds but its hard to tell from a crappy camera recording the sound.

So far I think I like MBRP sound the best with Spintech second place. Magna flow is third place and tomm I am dropping my truck off at muffler shop for the long tube header install. He wants to know if I want a muffler installed too but he only sells flow master and Magnaflow. I guess I kinda like the ripping sound (MBRP & Spintech) more than the burrbly sound (Flowmaster & Magnaflow). But I do like Magnaflow a good bit better than Flowmaster...I may just wait a bit and get the MBRP cat back ($579 for the 409 grade stainless) direct fit that way all my pipes from motor on back will be all new...

I dont think mine have that much gap.. I can't stress enough.. Be very careful tightening the bolts. I think the specs were only 9lbs or 12lbs... As soon as you go over, they break.

Well It sounds like your looking for a louder set-up with doing the headers and all. I on the other hand was just looking for a quality muffler that let me know I got a hemi when I get on it, yet not overly loud around town. I haven't really heard the MBRP or Spintech sound clips so can't really guide you on those two but between Flow or Magna I'ed go Magnaflow. Magnaflow has nice deep sound that's not super loud and "raspy" almost like straight headers.

Well I don't want stupid loud like flow master Outlaw's. Actually my goal is the same as yours, smile inducing when punched yet not loud when just mild driving. It's actually the reason I am bolting the headers to the stock exhaust. Which actually the stock exhaust on these Rams is pretty decent as is. Matt at Moe's performance says it's good enough that a muffler swap may yield 7-8hp. I dont know well enough to know the numbers...The headers I am doing because those and the Diablo Sport tuner and I should go from 395hp to ? I defer to the pros for those estimates :) Add the K&N 63 series CAI and a Hemifever custom tune and I should be happy enough with the truck. I may still do a cat back in the future but can't say for sure.

I like the magna flow vids I have seen. My coworker is having his put on this Sat.

MBRP clip...

I have my rt steps installed and I have almost no gap. I noticed one the brackets on the rear of the truck they need to be bent a little on the corner to allow the bracket to be flush to the frame. They are very sturdy steps and well worth the money

I was able to get the front side flush but not the back. Looks better, more balanced now...Seems like they would be made to not have a curve in them or maybe even a curve the opposite way very slightly to match the Ram rocker panel bottom?

you need to modify the back bracket. I have to bend the corner to get the bracket to sit flush on the frame, and only then was I able to get the step to install flush

Bend which way? Maybe back and up into truck a tad?

You only need to bend the corner back away cause truck frame has a bump in it so the bracket can't sit flush. You don't have to bend it much for it to sit flush
