Just installed new LED bulbs into my third brake light. I got no light out warnings. I went with 2 cool white bulbs for the work lights and a warm white bulb for the 3rd brake light so the red wouldn't look washed out or purple but not be darkened by the red bulbs since red is low on the color spectrum and red in a red housing might have made it darker so better safe than sorry. 77bf2bd8dbb708bb03b125dec0e520c2.jpg64f7e1219be210d1bd7ae4d3eb0f1a0c.jpg

They're very bright as well. It cost me 17 bucks shipped instead of 100 bucks for a whole new unit. Went with bulbs instead because I couldn't find a style of aftermarket units that I liked much.

Where did you order the bulbs?

Oh sorry I forgot to add that. I got them from superbrightleds.com and bought 3 921 canbus bulbs

That's so weird because I ordered the 921 bulbs from them and I got the bulb out warning from the 3rd brake light bulb. And, yes, they were the CANBUS ones. What exactly are the ones you got?...Web page link?

Every bulb on my truck is now LED. Including head lights, fogs, reverse, license plate, interior, etc...

For the 3rd break light I went with Phillips lights.

Philips 12789LPB2 Bright White Vision LED Back-up Light (921 /T16), 2 Pack at Amazon

Canbus friendly. Built in resistors.

Yup, those are the ones I bought a little over a year ago and I got the "bulb out" warning every time I started it up. I bought the red ones...not sure if that matters. Do you think your natural white LED one is brighter than the oem incandescent bulb?

I got the cool white for the work and then the warm white for the brake. I figured since the stock bulb is a warm white color it would closely resemble the same shade of red with out looking washed out and almost purple if I bought the cool white. The warm white is very bright. I also figured since red is lowest on the color spectrum having a red light through a red lense would dim the light output quite a bit. I'm glad I went with warm white.

I also have no clue if the color matters but the technology has come a long way over the past year with led. It seems to get a lot better per year. You could just try again it's only 5 bucks for a bulb.

Do they stay dimly lit when they are supposed to be off? If you havent checked yet I would because besides the bulb out error, thats the other issue with Leds in the 3rd brake light.

No they do not stay lit I have the sport so really everything on and in the truck is led except the headlights and the 3rd brake light. The whole interior is LED so the electrical system is already set up for such a low power draw from the lights so no issues at all with needing resistors. But if this were the case and they did stay lit it is an extremely easy fix.

I'm going to bring this back up... I was going to order those same bulbs from superbright, but when I went to my cart, it showed the 194 bulbs. Did you have that issue? I was going to order whites for the cargo lights and reverse lights, and a red one for the 3rd brake light.

I know all of those bulbs are supposed to be the 921 version. I haven't ordered it yet, but need to as my 3rd brake light went out yesterday.
