I know the double row of LED lights is illegal to run on the road, but what is the cut-off line. Is a single row allowable? How about if it has an amber lense?

My 09 Laramie will only fit a single row (maybe) and didn't know if I could run them full time. I know a lot of people are running LED fogs/driving lights.

Thanks

Depends on your state. Like for Texas, legally, you're only allowed to have so many foward facing lights (don't recall the exact phrasing) on your car.

So if you switch out a halogen turn signal bulb with a led turn signal, technically each led on the new turn signal counts as a separate light even though it's all on one housing. So if the cop was being real **** and technical, you could get a ticket for it. But 99% of the time it gets ignored, similar to front plate for Texas. Though if you tell them your car came like that, they won't give you a ticket.
But it will vary from state to state, based on whatever laws you have.

Contact your local police. Also, if the lights youre looking at are legal, they will be labeled DOT approved.

The offroad lights like the ones put on roofs or bumpers are 99% offroad use only. I can see someone adding them with higbeams, but if you are driving in normal traffic with them on you deserve the ticket as they are not usually very direct and create a huge aura/glare from the light source.

Im going to add 1 or 2 eventually but they are for highbeams/backroads. All the LEO that I know, and its too many as both parents are ex cops dont care about high beam count, its when you are blinding traffic is when they get antsy to write a ticket.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of adding a single row LED light bar to the front bumper slot on my truck and attaching it to the Hi Beams, but may just put it on it's own switch. Not sure if a single row is worth the effort or not. I like the double row, but I don't have the space on my Laramie.

A single row is worth it if you buy a quality one. A Rigid single row will outperform most no name/ebay double rows.

I have a 560watt 42" LED light bar on my bumper (has both spot and flood). It is illegal to use while riding on the road if you are behind someone or a car is coming towards you in the opposite direction (it is bright). I have mine on on a switch and only use when no one is around (or as an ******* light!).

This is in the middle of the night down a dark county side street with no headlights on, just the bar.

I have two 7" 30W single row spot LED bars "behind" my grill and I am able to use it on all roads when it's foggy or raining. So far I've had no other cars flash there lights back at me. Now mine are not as bright as others that are located on the outside of there vehicle and mine are only single row mounted very low in the grill.

From Federal regulations, most states will say only 4 white facing lights.

Cali, they are STRICT on this. I had Hella 4000s on my 1500, and as soon as I got into Cali from Arizona, I got pulled over in the day time and was told to put covers on them!

Most cops won't give you crap however, as long as you don't drive like a flat bill hat wearing teenager.

This is very important to note... It isn't just having them off, they technically have to have covers on them, and if you have it inspection.

Before NJ changed their inspections to safety/emissions only, the state inspection facilities would fail people for not having covers (a buddy of mine had his factory liberty covers off and failed).

It's a Phillips light bar. Here is the link.

The bracket I made from flat bar that I purchased from home depot. I connected the bracket to the front bumper bolt.

I wasn't able to take pics with grill off, but as you can see I mounted both LED's on the outside edge in front the radiator so the main center crosshair of the grill wouldn't block the light output.

It varies by state-
As stated above Cali sucks-
Anything above the head lights is offroad use only and has to have a cover on it while on the road.
Below the head lights doesn't require a cover and can be ran at ur discretion but there are limits to the amount of lights.

Yea, Cali's horrible for pretty much everything.

Most overrated state by far.

Anyone have trouble with people stealing covers or lights? A LED bar inside the bumper would be a bit tough, but one exposed on a light bar would be easy. A buddy of mine, here in Florida, had the round KC lights and had to tack weld the nuts on once he installed them or they would be missing.

I personally have never heard of someone's lightbar being stolen.

In the NJ/NY area people used to steal the OEM liberty (renegade) light bar covers. They were pricey to replace (before Amazon had almost every car part), and needed for inspection.

I'm getting ready to purchase a light bar and want to order the OPT7 remote harness. What connector or plug did your light bar come with? Want to see if the harness plugs right into the light bar.

Thanks
