All honestly though. All you have to due is tie LEDs to your dome light.

Well first you need to search the forums for what color your dome light is in your truck. Each year 1500, 2500, even diesel can all be a different color. If you can't find it (like myself) take a flat head screw driver and pop the lens off your dome light and pull it down from the roof. Their will be a ground usually black and then a goofy colored wire. Mine in a 14 2500 6.4 is white and purple. Then you have to find an easy access point for that wire. Because obviously tapping it up top in the roof would be difficult. Especially for novice like us. I found the easiest spot underneath my steering wheel against the side wall. I took off the driver door bottom panel for more room. Then I spliced into it. Now considering this is in cabin and out of the way, I used a vampire clip because it's not exposed to the elements. First though if you don't have a trim tool kit then stop and buy one. You break sh*t without one. Take your time! And don't involve alcohol! Ahaha. I wouldn't use a vampire clip in any other situation than inside the cabin. (Some still may disagree) but I used them externally (outside cabin in headlight assembly) and now have to go back and redo some wiring. Nothing wrong but after learning more I'm not happy with them. Do it right the first time. 3m tape is amazing too by the way for mounting without drilling. I couldn't have done that install without Sbarron, he's very knowledgable and I'm still learning from him. Sorry for any bad grammar sitting in a hotel room drinking beer. Here's also the link where it all started for me.

I wired mine into the OEM footwell lights. Works like charm! When the truck is unlocked they fire up!

Did the same thing using the OEM footwell lighting plug. That was unused. I ran red LEDs the length of my side steps. I had a thread on it including red full perimeter bed lighting.

Here's the video of mine working.

I tapped into the dome light wire under the drivers side front doorsill.

Either.

I think the dome tap was easier but then again my truck wasn't ran with footwell lights.

the led draw is usually so low relays aren't necessary.

I just did this on my truck. You want to tie into the dome light so the ground is lit by both the remote or opening any of your doors. It's really simple to do. You do not need a relay. I tried wiring one with the dome light as the trigger. The problem is that when using the remote to unlock the doors the voltage on the dome light isn't enough to fully activate the relay so it ends up making an almost painful sound as the relay chatters. The total current on the system is low enough with strip LEDs to be safe to use without a relay.
