I thought about writing something witty and awe inspiring to go along with the title. Nope, just going to call it as it is. Purchased this very stylish antenna, went on exactly as indicated, looked the bomb. Took it for a drive around the block and through a car wash, so far so good.

THEN hit the highway on my way back and I was " B" slapped by the amount of noise this generates. I mean to the point where conversations were not pleasant as it was just piercing noise coming from it. Thought ok maybe it's just my truck, so I put it on another Ram. This one all stock minus an air freshener, same thing. Now if you do not mind whistling noise while traveling at highway speed, then again this is a beaut. For the price point I'm really impressed with the build quality.

For my needs, it just did not meet them and I've now gone back to that oem one. Again if you do not mind noise, then I encourage you to grab one of these. Just remember if it doesn't suit you, you can always go back.

How was reception? What do you think caused it to whistle? That's bizarre.

I only use Sirius and USB so it was never a concern as far as that. I did take note that the oem one seems to have a couple wound around it. I know this seems crazy but I think that's what used to allow the wind to pass by the antenna as opposed to getting caught in it ?

I got one from AutoZone thats like 3 inch long no noise that I've heard and radio still works fine. Closest thing I could find to a damn near antenna delete with still having radio option. Just my style. Nothing like seeing a good looking truck still have a huge flimsy antenna

Does it have the wire wound (machined in) shape or is it just round stock? There's a reason the factory one's have that non-round shape/wire/relief in them, to prevent whistling or "NVH".

^^^. You are " spot on " as this one isn't wire wound as the oem. I safely assumed that was the reason why this whistled as opposed to the factory one. Again it's a beautiful look when tooling around town, or sitting still. Just once up to speed, be prepared.

Sadly I also have a 5" one that I used and when I tried the radio, nothing came through.

Has anybody ever tried one of those windshield antenna's? I used to have an old Monte Carlo that had the antenna built into the windshield. I wonder how well an aftermarket one would work?

Not the fault of the antenna, I just live where radio signals do not reach cleanly lol.
