So I'm getting ready to install 2 3" led pods for reverse lights. I want to mount them under the truck in the rear but I don't really have any pre existing holes that I can use. So my question is where have people mounted lights to and if need be any tips for drilling through the steel?

Build some brackets to mount them to the bumper brackets where they connect to the frame. Likely different on my 3500 than on your 1500 but you could likely do something similar. I wanted mine tucked under the truck slightly for a cleaner look.

I drilled holes into the hitch receiver frame and bolted the lights up there. If I could do it over, I'd do the corner bracket like others in this thread have done. That way they'd be straight, and I'd get a little more output. Wish I had thought of that! Lol

I went to Home Depot and bought some cute little joist hangers and modified them slightly, then bolted them on. I made a wire harness that uses battery power only switched on with the reverse lights by a relay.

I mean......that is cute, but it's not a joist hanger. This is what I used. I think I had to cut the over the top ears off so they would sit further down on the frame. Drilled a couple holes. Painted the **** out of everything.

Probably the first and only thread on ramforum that utilizes the word "cute" in three different post.

4 if you count mine.

I realize they weren't joist hangers, but couldn't pass on your "cute" descriptor.

I plan to add some lights this Spring when the weather warms up. What kind of beam are you guys using? I was thinking a flood would be better than a spot beam. Thoughts?
