Why would you have to cut the insert out and not just remove it? Looks pretty thin from the pictures. A rock or large bug might dent it up pretty easily.

Exact same grille inserts i installed over the summer, got them from ebay. I like them and haven't had a single problem with rock chips yet, just a few bugs getting stuck in it from time to time

Nope, no cutting required. The stock inserts are held in by plastic tabs on the backside of the grille and they pop right out

It looks good I would be a tad worried on how it would hold up. Be warned you have to drill into your truck to install those per one of the reviews.
