I'm looking to get rid of my 22s, as much as I love the look the ****** roads, frost heaves, and my wife's inability to parallel park are killing them. So I want to move down to a lightweight 17" or 18" wheel and I'm looking for a new set of performance tires. I've been running the NT420S on the 22s and I absolutely love them as a DD tire (I use drag radials for the track) and want something similar for the new wheels but Nitto doesn't make the NT420S in the diameters I need in a 17" or 18".

I need a tire in the 30"-31" range and I want a wide tire as the new wheels will be 17x9 or 18x9 so preferably a 11-12" wide.

I've been looking at the Toyo Proxes ST ii in a 285/60R17 or 285/60R18 but what are some other performance tires out there? Keep in mind I'm not looking for set of general all terrain tires, but something that's more performance oriented as they're only on the truck a 4-5 months a year.

...and my wife's inability to parallel park are killing them.

This is a very common problem that is in no way specific to just your wife...if you could forbid her from driving your truck, or at minimum, forbid her from parallel parking, would you keep your 22's?

Lol, it's just one of the issue, the big one is the difference in weight, my 22s alone are 45lb (just the wheel) each with a corner weight of 65lb, a set of DC-2 wheels is 24.6lb, dropping 20lb of rotating mass on each corner is a huge difference when it comes to putting power to the ground.

Tires are cheaper than my annual dues to the local pig department.

Id much rather buy tires.

Love the toyo ST 2's just can't beat that custom looking tread pattern, the others that i've had good luck with are the Bridgestone Potenza lines.

You should reweigh your current wheel/tire combo. If your wheels weigh 45lbs the combo isn't 65lbs...more like 90. A 305/40/22 averages about 44lbs per tire.
That said...I decided to try the Proxes ST ll on my new truck...I gotta say I do like them. They measure a bit more narrow than my 305 width Pirelli's, not really liking that but otherwise a good riding tire.

Yeah, that was a typo, it's 85lb, not 65lb, I'm only running the 265/40R22s right now. I was planning to burn these off then throw a set of the 305s on but now I'm seriously looking at smaller wheels so I can get more sidewall. Good to know about the Proxes, they reviewed well and have a range of sizes that would work for me.

Firestone Destination ST have good reviews.

I planned on getting the Grabber UHP when I got rims. They looks nice and hear good things. Just the rims I bought already had 420s

Ventus ST RH06 look nice too, just sizes are limited.

May see if Yokohama Ventus comes in the size you need? They are lightweight, wear well, nice tread design, and grip like crazy. Also, +1 on the unsprung weight savings...just went to stock 20 chome clads and 275/60/20 SRAs from my 305/50/20 Kumhos and chrome Boss wheels. It was a savings of 18-19 lbs per corner and the difference is amazing! The truck is way more responsive, takes far less pedal pressure to hold speed which = more mpgs, feels like I got a new tune, and doesnt do the annoying grabbing every line in the lane anymore. Feels like I gained 20 extra ponies on the top end haha. Great mod!

You mean Hankook Ventus?

Yokohama does not make the Ventus

Yeah, and I said screw unsprung weight on this truck. Plus my forged 22s with tires weigh the same has my stock chrome clads with tires. 80lbs.

Most 17" and 18" rims for these trucks arr 4x4ish looking and ugly..
Even though the stock 17" alloys weigh like 21lbs I think. That would be a good drag setup minus the width.

Good catch! Yeah what he said! I was looking at Yoko's when I typed this but ..yes...Hankooks. I had a set of these on my Rumble Bee and they worked well.

Sorry to be late to the discussion but have anyone come across some nice light 20’s that are 10 wide or 11 wide?
