So on my 2011 1500 5.7 SLT ram it comes stock with 245/70/17 tires. I do a lot of hauling on the weekends and it's a very heavy load for the 1500 but it pulls it quite well. It's a 4000lb flat bed trailer with (2) 2600lb race cars on it! We travel hours every weekend on the interstate to the next track. It's now getting time to put some new rubber on the truck. I'm thinking a 285/60/20 and getting some nice fuel wheels. Now I was wondering if anyone knew what load range tire to look for. I was told the more rim and less tire would help the hauling because it's less sidewall to move around? And they might last longer because of the better load range? That's a 33.5inch tire I will be adding a 2-3inch leveling kit to the front for clearance. Anyone have any input on that? Thanks!

I would think a tire with more sidewall (17 rather than 20) would give you towing capacity. The thicker sidewall gives it more strength.

So would load range E be the way to go for the tire to last longer?

Yes if you're towing that much.

in that size your only going to find e rated tires so the load rating is irrelevant. you should be able to fit them without a leveling kit, but if you add one i would say stay around 2" or so so when you tow the truck sits level and not nose high.
