400 miles on the truck and the driveshaft looks rusted on the outside, just wondering if this is a common thing? I live in Fla so no snow here

Yeah, don't sweat it. The air is so wet down here that everything rusts and it's even worse if you live anywhere near the coast with all the salt in the air. Hell I've got bolt heads INSIDE my truck that have light surface rust from the humidity. Let your truck sit for a bit and I'll bet you'll even see surface rust form on the rotors.

This is normal. It will happen faster or slower depending on all kinds of conditions.

Normal. They don't coat them very well if at all.

Normal like stated above since they dont coat them at all. if you are really concerned take it off sand blast and powder coat. you would have to make sure its still balanced though

Ya I was going to say, coat them very well. There not coated at all. I had a 99 Silverado that looked new underneath. Got a dodge 03 dodge 2500 and it looked like ****, just from the train ride.

The first thing I do when I get a new truck is to paint everything that will rust.

My 2017 with 800 miles had the driver rear shock blow and was leaking oil everywhere which lead to me crawling under it for the first time. Also noticed the rust on the drive shaft and was like wtf. In a dry climate, but they use salt and its been rainy/snowy.

Anything to put on it to improve it or stop it?

I would just use fluid film and apply once or twice a year. Found out about it on this forum and it really is great stuff.
