I've been toying with the idea of color matching my bumpers. Just been going back and forth between an aftermarket bumper or buying and painting a steel OEM bumper. In the meantime, my son talked me into Plastidipping the stock chrome bumpers to see how it would look. So this weekend we applied 8 coats of white and 4 coats of glossifier to my chrome bumpers and grill. I'm just wondering how well the Plastidip will hold up to the millions of south Ga bugs!

I think that looks great. I think you just talked me into trying it. How's it look close up?

I really like the color matched. As far as holding up; my front emblem is plasti-dipped and has done well through two winters and all the washes I gave the truck. Granted, that's a lot smaller than a bumped but am happy with the dip.

Looks good.

With 8 coats AND glossifier that **** will last forever.

My wife's dipped hhr was done over a year and a half ago and looks the same it did when I dipped it.

That looks really kick ass. I wonder how much powder coating them would be. I dislike all the chrome on my truck.

Everyone says you can't paint over chrome without completely stripping it. Since I don't have access to a sandblasted that will handle the job I think I'd be better off starting with a painted one, if I decide to stay with an OEM bumper.

I've seen a couple of aftermarket bumpers coated with Line X and Rhino bedliners. I've also seen someone apply one of the DIY bedliners to a chrome bumper and it didn't stick very well. Powdercoating seems to be the most popular option on aftermarket bumpers by a large margin.

LOL! You know, chrome does kinda blend with white. But man, that is a lot of freakin' chrome on my truck!! I'm really liking the color matched white, just gotta decide if I wanna spend the money on aftermarket bumpers or stay with OEM.

Leave them Plasti-Dipped and see how long it lasts! If it holds up over time, win win, if not, you are not out much and you know how kick ass it looks. I am going to do mine in black as soon, as I get time.

Here's a better trick for the OP. Get cheap clear spray paint and apply a few coats over the glossifer. It will give the top finish a much stronger and glossier finish more like a clear coat. The clear enamel will also hold up and clean easier than glossifer. And don't worry the plasti dip will still pull up like regular dip with the clear coat. I've dipped my wheels and sprayed with clear spray paint and it's gone through 2 NJ winters with lots of salt and I have no issues with the finish.

I think I'll take my time and look for a deal on an OEM painted bumper. Every aftermarket bumper I like is $1500-$2000!

Do you know your paint code? My truck is the same way and I've been toying with the idea but was not sure how it would come out! That looks almost identical! This is my truck so far

I plasti diped my wheels a year ago on my first truck and kept them on my second truck and they still look like I just did them . did the badges too , I've been through the carwash about 25 times and no issues all I did was wipe everything with alcohol I think plastic dip is better than paint plus you can take it off it it's not what you wanted.
