Just wondering what the best polish is for aluminum. I haven't dealt too much with alum. Let me know what your experiences are. I am wanting to achieve a close to chrome look. Thanks for the help. I am looking at turning these rims into a polished look.

The blue tube wenol works great too. I saw a booth demo at a car show one time and the results were great.

Unless you have the patience of an angel, I'd take those to a shop for initial polishing.
Just cutting through the paint will take forever.

Don't even try that at home unless you just wanna hate life. Take them and have them stripped and polished then drop a hundred bucks on a kit from ShineSeal to seal them up so they won't dull out.
With a cast wheel, which those are, you may not get the finish you're after either. Cast wheels will not polish to the high luster that billet will. You may wanna consider that before you start.

I was going to leave the black and polish the bear metal... Will this not work? I am not worried about the painted area.

There's reason they make a machine for things like that. If they weren't originally polished you won't get them polished by hand. If they were originally polished you may get the look back but you better seal them or it won't last long.

I was planning on using my dremel with a polishing compound.I have seen some pretty big turn a rounds with the dremel and a polishing compound. Then I was going to use mothers or something similar to protect the wheels.

you can try sanding them with real light sandpaper... aluminum is a soft metal so it will buff out eventually, will definitely take some time but it can be done. I've sanded aluminum fuel tanks on a kenworth w900 to get rock chips out and buffed the **** out of it afterwards. took alot of work but it shined like a mirror after being buffed.
