3.55 anti-spin rear diff whining like a supercharger. What's the general cost to have it rebuilt? Is it worth rebuilding? Should I just find a pulled whole axle assembly and swap it?

or just burn the fugger to the ground and go buy another truck? :word:

No idea on what itd cost to rebuild. But out of curiosity, how many miles total do you have on you truck and when was last time you had the diff fluid changed?

Not too expensive to rebuild. Depends if it's just bearings or ring and pinion gears, or axles got damaged. Most rebuilds we do are typically differential side bearings and pinion bearings.

Is the truck 4x4? If only a 2x4 then I would upgrade that thing - what are your truck specs and uses?

93k miles on the truck. Fluid changed with Redline 75w140 every 30k miles. So, it was just done a couple thousand miles ago. No indication there was anything wrong when I changed the gear oil. The old oil looked fine, not metallic indicating a failure was coming.

I'm going to call around and get some prices. I don't really have the time to rebuild it myself. Or the tools. Isn't the pinion bearing pressed in?

Truck is 4x2 and mostly used for towing. In fact, I'd say 75% of my miles are towing either my bass boat or travel trailer.

what am I looking at for a rebuild, roughly? $1000-2000?

If so, I might just trade it in on a new truck. lol Seriously. It needs tires, both exhaust manifolds have broken bolts, the suspension is getting a little tired, transmission is getting hard shifts, now the rear diff. My truck gets used for truckly duties.

Do a diff swap and go 392"s or 4:10"s-
Or better yet trade it for a 5.7/8speed/392"s-

Bearings Fail. I have had mine go as well. Pinion bearing replaced with the Recall then replaced again less than 20k later. Carrier bearings went at 180k. Different whines. when a bearing begins to fail, its tolerances change and you can get gear whine. it can also whine from the roughness in the metals and the rollers hitting that. I replaced my carriers myself with the aid of some special tools and plenty of Miller Lite. Not for the non mechanically enclined. I believe it is less than $2k, but definately more than $1k.

what you dont want is it to crater out and damage the ring and pinion. if that happens plan on the high side. Low side if its just the bearings themselves.

I'm trading the truck in this weekend. Not going to sink any more money in to this truck. It's been good to me, but time for a new one.
