I've been putting off doing an HID upgrade to my fogs,
concerned the extra output in a reflector housing would have too much light scatter.

You're the first one I've heard confirm there is a real risk.
I know an HID bulb in a reflector headlight housing is a big issue,
but thought the fogs are mounted low enough to stay out of on-coming traffics eyes, guess not.

So a projector retro fit makes sense , but its not cheap ouch!

No problems with mine.
But I do think they should be aimed a little lower.

Can the fogs be adjusted?

I think it's just Florida and the older drivers. No one flashed me while riding around with HID fogs and the FX-R's driving thru Kentucky and Tennessee the other day.

I think the projector fogs would help with the scatter in actual fog. I got a lot of glare from them in the mountain fog in the early AM.

I dont really have an issue with my stock fogs output/performance
and don't really need brighter, just want them to look closer to my 5000k HID projectors color.

They just look so yellow when my heads are on
maybe just an upgraded halogen silverstar/crystalvision H10/9145 will hold me over
until I can afford a full fog retro fit.

I had a slight concern myself with oncoming cars, flash thing. On my way to work this morning, oem fogs and heads on(low beam nonetheless), some yahoo flashed me about 150 yards out. F that, flipped my high beams on(fogs stay on too), good luck with that yahoo. Can't wait for the upgraded PJ lighting. No worries from this point in.

No one has flashed me yet, however I have noticed that the dip****s sand bagging in the left hand lane get over more often than before. I guess the bright lights are enough to gain their interest, for a split second at-least, to look in the rear view mirrors, and notice that people are behind them trying to pass, instead of having their head buried in their smartphone or slapping their cake hole together.

Probably so

I hate how everybody has 10k and 12K hids, drop them in and never re aim them. So they blind the F out of you or and the jacked up trucks are even worse.

i think that the HIDs make the truck look alot better too, like it costs more than it does. Every since i started using HIDs back in 08 (projector HIDs i should say) every car since then that is the first upgrade i do, i hate driving without them. They are so much brighter too

I got the 50w hid kit today. I hope some of you who already have them can help me out before I install them. I know that some of my questions are obvious and could be assumed, but I've learned to never assume if possible...lol.

1. Can I remove the unused wire harness from the hid light bulbs? Please see the attached picture. Since I'm using the canbus adapter, I don't use/need this, right? It would just be one less thing to try and find room for.

2. The white ballast wire connects to the blue bulb wire and the blue ballast wire connects to the red bulb wire. Please see the attached picture. This is one of my obvious assumptions, since it seems the connectors can only connect one way. The non-matching wire color has me 2nd guessing.

3. Since the rest of the connections (mainly for the canbus adapter) can be flipped either way, I just need to make sure the wire colors match up (I.e. Red to red and black to black). Am I correct?

4. I know some people stuff everything into the projector housing, but would it be better for life of the ballast and canbus adapter for cooling reasons to leave them outside the housing? But, now that I think about it more, my projectors have the OEM plug inside the housing, right? That's probably why everyone just stuffs it all inside.

One thing I know is that heat is electronics worst enemy.

Any other tips you guys might have is much appreciated! :favorites13:

If you shove it all inside ya you can take those extra wires off no prob, if you decide to keep em outside you need them, and correct for the plug colors, sometimes but very rarely you have to flip the polarity of the wires from your factory plug to the relay harness or canbus adapter so try your lights before you put it all back together

yes you can remove it, and yes the wires are correct, for the Projectors just shove everything inside the light like tetris. Thats what i did and ive had it running for about 2 months now with no problems!

I have the canbus adapters in mine too

I'm trying to understand why I would need them at all....rather I stuff everything in the housing or not. Could you explain that to me??

They are for when you use a relay harness instead of the adapters, they go from the fsctory plug inside the light to the relay harness, harness then goes through the relay essentially to your ballast to the light, a little more to it then that but just to give you the picture

When I did mine I used 6k bc i like the blue, but I had some old DDM 35w ballasts and some 9006 bulbs that I modified. I got the canbus adapters from Jeremy and they work great. I decided to run the wires outside the headlight for a reason. If the ballasts decide to stop working or want to upgrade to 55w I don't need to remove the headlights (only for a bulb change) I did this a week after I got my 14 express black out with projector headlights and love the output. The fog lights are a menace though... and give off alot oF glare/brightness to cars in front of you... esp the smaller lower ones.

Idk about you guys but the rams require alot of stuff to remove to get the headlights out aND kind of a PITA compared to other cars etc.

How bad is it to get the fogs out? Removal of rear panels or removal of the whole bumper??

There's no need to remove the fog housing to upgrade to HID's
the rear socket is easily available from behind the bumper/fender liners.

The only reason to remove the fogs would be to swap in a set that were retro fitted with projectors ($550)

My new FX-R heads should arrive within the next day or twp,
along with my fog HID kit (35w/5000k with canbus adapters)

that's what I thought, it's just a flap unless your pulling the whole casing out to put in projectors. IF I do this when I order the Headlights w/the FX-r kit I'll put in matching projectors.
