Hello Ram Forum and Googlers. I recently had four lights in my truck's bumper (VisionX light cannons see photo below)
99a7258587f7ef2075a78c12c095b87c.jpg
I thought they looked amazing! They fit my bumper great and are very high quality. However, I decided to sell them and try a different set of lights.

If you wants to learn more about the Light Cannons then check out my other review:
http://www.ramforum.com/f41/visionx_light_cannon_4_5_review-83919/

After tons of research, I decided I really wanted to try the Rigid Industries D2 XL's....

I am not trying to do a comparison. I feel the D2 XL's and the VX light cannons are like comparing apples and oranges. One is a spot beam and the other a driving beam. The watts are no where near close and the prices are different. So just enjoy the thread for what it is :)

So, the D2 XL's I bought came packaged well. I opened the box and pulled all the stuffing/ packing out. Here is me before the install...

I will say the wiring is a breeze. I have wired other Rigid products to my truck. I have done KC lights and multiple VisionX products too in the past.

Only thing is......

I had to cut one of the wires and extend it.
6bad283c93ebae0a7f63a8f197818017.jpg

The orange wire I added. I know it's hard to tell because everything is already done. However. I had to cut the wire between the relay and the fuse. The wire was not long enough from the relay to the switch! I swear! Eff'in crazy. I had to cut the wire so the relay was on the inside of my fire wall (which Rigid prefers per their website) and the reattach once I fed the wire through to the fuse. A small annoyance. If you are unfamiliar with wiring, despite how basic this is, have a shop do it. :)

Everything is done :)

I only have two for now. If I like, I will buy two more :)

I feel the VX light cannons fill the space better and look cleaner. However, I feel the "driving" beam pattern is more appropriate for my bumper application than that of the VX light cannon spot pattern. Both great lights regardless.

I am still waiting for the sun to completely set, stay tuned for night shots :)

They look miss matched in the round bumper openings but u already knew that. They hopefully perform better tho. Interested to see the beam pattern and output. Anyone else think it's weird that just about every LED chip is rotated differently? Like there is no pattern at all. It doesn't matter as they are 180* output but just think it's weird.

Hadn't really looked too closely at the chips....

Now it's kinda bothering me.

I would like to know how bright are these leds, if yoy do not mind telling me. I have been looking for a pair of off road spot beam lights to put behind the grill in my sport ram. I had 130 watt halogen kc daylighter spot beam lights in my 07 ram, and they were great. I have contacted the KC company a couple of times asking about their new led spot beam off road lights, and I
never get a straight answer on - are they as bright as the 130 watt halogen lights, and are they as bright or brighter than my hid lights. Thanks

Not sure that I am a fan of the square peg in a round hole look..... Personally thought the original lights looked better. did you try LED bulbs in the original housings?

I totally feel the round VisionX lights fit the style of my truck better (I have a review on this forum for them for those interested). However, I want to try some different lights. I was always intrigued by these Rigid D2 XL's....

Here are some night shots. I would highly recommend these lights. My IPhone 7 could not capture the full effect FYI. Maybe 85% of the light in the following shots.

Lights on, me standing in the bed of my truck:

I walked about 30 feet in front of my truck....

I will post some better ones in the near future. So far I am pleased.

FYI, the D2 XL's contain the same amount of "driving beam" leds/ optics as their 20, 30, 40 and 50 inch E2 series light bars. Pretty cool.

Dayum. They are bright lol. I was always impressed with rigids output... just never the price. But I guess u pay for what u get. I run 2 cheap 42" LED bars and they work fine for me for the 2% I use them.

Above: Rigid Industries D2 XL. Tried to get a good photo. iPhone doesn't really do justice but you get a pretty good idea. Probably 85%, maybe 90%, of light captured in photo.

I am a little bummed out. After only a month or so after I bought these lights Rigid upgrades their lights to their "pro" series. Of course. Same price but with like twice the output. Gaddamnit!

Any who, here is a photo I took on a back dirt road. Photo picks up like 85% of the light.

Do you think for the price, it's worth it versus offbrand?

Sorry, just saw your post. I feel the price is worth it. I only say that because I have seen the cheaper Amazon light bars in person.

It doesn't take long for the cheaper optics to fade out with sun damage. They tend to get a little yellow or cloudy with the lense cover. All of this effects the throw of light down the road.

You don't have to buy Rigid. Check out VisionX and Baja Designs. They are equally expensive but you are paying for that Patented technology, well constructed optics and LEDs/ circuit boards that should last years.

So, my opinion, they are worth the price. However, some might argue against me lol.

Start off with a pair of the New Dually PROs. Won't break the bank and you can get an idea of the product without dropping 2k.

We run the Rigid lights on our headers during rice harvest, the cheaper amazon units don't hold up to the vibration and harsh "climate" seen hanging of the front of a harvester. They really do make a good product that is worth the $$

No for your square peg in a round hole, Have you thought about making some trim rings for the round holes to fit the square light and make it look like it was designed that way?

Yes, I actually did think of doing that. However, I decided to relocate the lights instead. I won't keep them here long term. But, for now, it is better than being in the round light hole. It was bugging me too much.

Not the best idea I get that. I might ditch them in the future. Or put them as over kill reverse lights.

VisionX is releasing some pretty bad ass lights. Of course, with my luck, they released them after I bought these Dually XL's.

I am pretty excited about the new lights. They are 100% what I am looking for to put in my bumper. Looks like I already found my Christmas gift....

Not trying to change the subject. If you guys have any questions on the Dually XLs or comments. Please share :)

I think you need to run both lol. Square on the bumper, round in the bumper.

Side note, do you have more photos of the bumper? Side view, etc.
