I was wondering is there a more permanent way to black these rims out besides plastic dip

they are like a plastic cover over the aluminum rim.

You can powder coat them . Powder coating is more durable than just painting them.

Bit off the subject, but here goes..........

It kinda irks me when people refer to the vehicles wheels as "Rims". Don't know, maybe it make me think of ridiculous 24 or 26" is wheels people put on sedans. They are usually referred to as RIMS.
Slang term? Maybe so but it is one I kinda wish would go away.

I refer to the 14" rims on my 2-place sled trailer as rims.....now if you are talking about a wheel set(tire mounted on rim) then it's a wheel. To me anyways.

We could just call them "shoes".. unless they are 20" or larger, then they would be dubs...

This of course refers to the whole assembly, wheel and tire.

I will now go shoot myself!

How did this get so blown out of proportion. All he wanted to know was what was the best way to coat the wheel

As per the original question, you could sand the wheels, prime, and hit it with duplicolor. I did this on the grill of my old Subaru and it held up pretty well.

As per the side bar, what would happen if some threw some swangas on there?

Didn't think it was possible, but I'm now dumber for clicking that link. ;)

As to the original question, I guess it all depends on what the OP is after and his budget. Powdercoating would be the best, but if he offroads or lives somewhere with dirt roads, or even dirty roads, them paint would be better as it's cheaper and will need redone.

I just wouldn't think Powder coat would work because it seems like it a mold cover formed to the rim

Once they sandblast the silver paint off. It will have a clean surface for the powder to bake on the wheel.
