Rims question?? Help required

Hey guys. Ignorant question here on rims/tires. I've got 20x9 clads on my current 2012 Ram, leveled with 275/65/20's.. I'm going to a 2017 blackout express that has 20x8's.. now I understand that it's a 1" narrower wheel. What I'm not up on is the backspacing I guess/offset???? Will the 20x8 rims sit an inch in shallower/skinnier? (Stick out less). My 20x9 and tire combo sticks out just a tiny bit, and I like it. Will these 20x8's sit back in (shallower) ??? I am keeping my rubber. I did a lot of reading but couldn't quite get what I wanted.

Generally, if you go to a narrower rim, off the same truck, it will lose width on both the inside & outside the same.

IE, if the rim is 1" narrower, I'd expect it to stick out 1/2" less from the body, and have an additional 1/2" clearance to everything under the fender (steering, brakes, etc).

The black night edition wheels appear to have the same stance as the regular sport wheels which are definitely 20x9, so my guess is that if the black wheels are indeed 20x8 they have a different offset.

I know the window sticker says 20x8 black wheels, so I'm not saying you are wrong. I just can imagine they would make two different widths of the exact same wheel.

Those two wheels should have the same positive offset of 19.1mm so the 20x8 will tuck a bit more than the 20x9..

Remember, you cut the total wheel width diference in half so the 8 inch wheel will be roughly 1/2" narrower on either side of the wheel center line compared to the 9 inch wheel.

I asked another member that bought a night edition ram with the black wheels to look on the back of the wheel and tell me what the specs are. As I thought it is a 20x9 wheel NOT a 20x8 wheel and the offset is 19.05mm.

I think the window sticker is a typo or they are using the description from the black wheels on the black out version of the express which could possibly be 20x8 wheels

I had this same question as I was looking for the right truck to buy...the window stickers for the Night Editions say 20x8...I was curious so I checked one of the VINs I was interested in against the Dodge build sheet/equipment list and it showed 20x9 for the same truck...

Any second confirmations from those with a Night Edition with checking the back of one of their wheels to confirm the 20x9 +19mm spec?

the guy i asked provided me pictures. No way they are going to have two castings for the same wheel design. They are 20x9
