Side Steps or Nerf Bar

I'm the proud owner of a 2017 Ram 1500 Crew Cab Tradesman 4x4. The first thing the wife said was, "When are you getting a nerf bar installed?" She's right. I have a 76 yr old Uncle at 300 lbs who will need to be able to climb into the front cab on occasion. I have been looking at Side Steps as well as Nerf/Step bars. I am leaning to Step bars as they seem easier for the foot to stay firmly planted while stepping up into the cab, but I really don't have a preference. Any feedback on what might be better? Any brands you like or dislike?

Do you find side bars have enough surface for a good foothold? How many inches is wide enough?

I've got the Westin HDX Drop steps which I really love.

I had the N-fab 6 step on my truck before, then I switched over to the Amp's.. My mom is 72 and had trouble getting into truck with N-fab. This past weekend she made a comment about it being a lot easier to get in with the Amps... Yes, they are expensive, but they are a nice firm step and out of the way when you don't need them

I second the Westin HDX drop steps. I really like mine. The step is nice and wide and easy to step on. And is a non slip surface with die stamped metal instead of the hard plastic some nerf bars use as the step.

I favor the OEM style boards. Gives better footing IMO and easy for my 85 y/o mother in law to get in and out of ! Now IMO for looks I like the steps better

Me too...I like my OEM steps. At least until I can save up for the AMP steps.

I've always wanted the amp steps. Finally pulled the trigger last week and they are awesome! My grandma likes them way better than the factory steps
