Is chrome part on the stock rims on a 15 bighorn really just a plastic hubcap?

Yes, I believe the "chrome clad" are a form of plastic. Definitely not the same as the bumpers.

Yep. Even on my Laramie. I never even heard of "chrome clad" and once I discovered it.... I felt cheated lol. What is even more amazing is some one bought them off me for $400.

I've had my Bighorn for a month now and just noticed that it was plastic when looking at a huge scratch on the side from the machine that takes the tire off the rim. Dealer pulled one over on me because I didn't notice it before.

This is my third vehicle with them. They are easy to clean and don't pit like chrome wheels ,or have the clear coat peel like they do in aluminum wheels. My neghibor has a 2005 and they still look good. They are bonded on the wheel and don't come off. And really they must look pretty damn good if it takes some people months to figure it out.

They are not hubcaps. They are not removable. They are securely epoxied to the rim. Anyone complaining about them has not had the privilege of spending big bucks on a nice set of Cragars only to have them destroyed in short order due to salt and sand. Ahhh the good old days... NOT
I'll take the chromed plastic thank you. :)

I had to edit the word "PRIVILEGE" iOS 10 though it looked better as "PRICE LEDGE".

What specifically do you use to clean them? I use "wheel cleaner" but still seem to have residue on them.

I had a 1995 F-150 that had the chromed plastic covers. They are easily cleaned, aren't going to rust/pit and much less expensive to replace. I believe that the skins on my Ford were replaceable though. I like them, they don't bother me any.

My friend paid $1000 extra when he bought his truck in 2012.

Honestly? I used to use invisible glass lmao. It was a smooth non porous surface and it left no streaks or anything. Long term I couldn't tell you if it was a good thing or a bad thing to use, so take my reply with a grain of salt.

Mild soap and water is best....Don't use wheel cleaner products as they can damage the finish. Wiped clean very easy...I often just wipe them with a dry towel.

No rust, but green yellow when it peels off. And it will peel off in winters.

Eventually they'll look so terrible I'm going to have to rip them off and sand and paint the casting underneath.

Yes just like i said they will come off.

Oh ya you're right they will come off. There just not going to back on. That's what i ment it's not like a hubcap.
