They are lighter (MPG) & easier to keep clean.

Not sure if I like the design/looks on my 2014 but my neighbor has a 2004 with the plastic chrome clads and they still look like new.

Ram is not the only company doing this. actual chrome wheels, or even polished aluminum wheels require more maintenance and upkeep in order to keep them looking good then most owners would ever do. you would have people complaining that their oem wheels look ****** since they are too lazy to polish them.

I personally like them very easy to keep up with once they are cleaned and polished. I had them in my 06 my 14 and now my 10. I treat them just like my paint. Claybar if they give trouble cleaning up polish and wax. They may feel cheep atleast it's a nice aluminum wheel behind in it's not a junk steel wheel atleast.

The plastic part didn't bother me, I just didn't like the chrome. I like some chrome, but not too much. The chrome wheels were a bit too much on my truck for my liking. So I replaced the chrome wheels on my 15 Big Horn with the wheels from a Sport. I got the Sport wheels for $600, and sold my Big Horn wheels to a local company that buys and sells wheels for $400. Swapped my tires to the Sport wheels for about $50 (including adding tire warranty since the tires were still so new at the time).

So about $250 to upgrade to Sport wheels.

It's not a cheap out on ram's part....

My previous truck was an 07 Sierra Denali with the CK916 22" premium wheel "package" that was a $4K+ option from GM when new.

When I bought my 13' in 2014 those real chrome factory GM 22" aluminum wheels..........looked like I drove them through the Atlantic.

They do chrome clad for a reason. I'd be happier with shiny plastic than I was with nasty oxidation and pits.

Its cheap IMO and i dont care who uses them , my last set of chrome rims were on the truck 6 years and were still in good shape when I sold the truck.
just have to take care of them is all. of course my truck still looked like new as well with 100k on the clock.

Not saying they look bad I think they look fine but it is a cheap way out for auto makers.
