Can I get wider tires put on my stock wheels? What is the max tire width I can fit? What brand and profile should I consider?
I am not getting as much traction as I'd like, and I think the stock tires look tall and skinny.
I am also thinking of either getting the SRT wheels or having my stock wheels painted flat gray or black. Price isn't really the object, it is more a question of appearance and performance...
BTW, 2"-4" Belltech drop is likely in the near future (currently have GF 2" level).
Any thoughts???

You can run a wider tire on the truck. I have a local customer that is installing a Belltech 2/4 drop this weekend, and he is going to be running 275/55/20's up front and 305/50/20's in the rear. Should give it a mean muscle car type stance.

If you want wide, then I would go with 305/50/20's all around. They have more surface area which will slightly hurt performance, but they are also shorter than stock which increases performance by raising your overall gear ratio. In the end, its a wash and you have a better looking truck.

Thanks Matt! You read my mind, I was thinking of narrower in front than in rear.
Do you recommend a brand?

How could you put a wider tire on a stock rim? Missing that...

Taller yes, wider?

I'm unsure the width of stock 20" wheels, but each tire manufacturer will list approved widths for their tires. Many installers will not mount them if the rim is not within the range. It appears you need an 8.5" minimum width to fit the 305/50s. I'm guessing OE wheel is 8" wide? Some shops may mount them. If money is no object, buy new wheels also.

wider tires on stock rims just push the center of the tire up and make it a little taller. i had 37-12.50-17 on my stock rims for a long time and it wore out the center pretty fast.

@Burla You can fit wider tires on OEM rims, but you need wheel spacers. If he wanted a 12.5" wide tire, he'd need 1/4" wheel spacer.

@kkreit01 OEM rims are 20x9.

Nah not failing Burla. There are allowable widths that tires can be and like stating before its up to the manufacturer to list those.
Reaper if he goes with a shorter side wall and goes wider it will keep it in relatively stock height.
When it comes down to fitting wide tires on wheels it comes down to if the bead will seat and stay seated. If a tire shop wants to take the risk of fiting a 12" wide tire on a 8" wide wheel cause the customer wants it to fit thats on the customer. I wouldn't ever go outside those approved wheel sizes if it was my truck.

I was afraid of that. I think new wheels and tires is the smarter way to go. Now to convince my wife that my truck NEEDS new wheels and tires! :)

Thank you all for your responses!
