Tailgate didn't latch properly, came down on a trailer jack while driving.

Well I went to pick a new sled up a few weeks ago. I put it on the trailer and grabbed a couple ratchet straps out of the box on the truck. I close the tailgate and it starts coming back down. I slam it shut and pull on it, all is good. We run into town for breakfast. Somewhere on the way the tailgate came back down on top of the trailer jack. I noticed after breakfast and was pretty pissed!



I called up my dealer and the service manager said to bring it in for pictures and he'd submit it for warranty work.

Apparently this is the 3rd for 4th 2016 that they've had in this year with the same issue. He said one guy backed up into something while it was down and crunched it in.

FCA gave them the green light, so I had my whole tailgate painted up! I had a nick from something else, so I was happy to have that fixed!

Just wanted to create this thread to see if this has happened to anyone on here, or to let others know it'll be covered under warranty of it happens to you.



This is the tongue jack that did me in. If I hadn't had the Dee Zee tailgate assist, there would be 2 good dents from the jack in my gate!

And for fun, here's what I picked up.

2016 Arctic Cat ZR 9000 Limited. 1056cc 4 stroke turbo. It's got a Turbo Dynamics tune and clutch kit and makes 240 HP on pump 91. It's pretty wild! Lol

It's good that they took care of it for you. One thing I'll say about my Ram (also a '16)...when shutting the tailgate...it definitely does not have what I'll call a "positive lock" feel to it. The first couple times I used the bed, I opened and shut the tailgate a second time because I didn't think it sounded like it shut properly. I'll have to keep an eye on that.

Oh...and 240 hp in a sled, lol. Nice.

I automatically pull on the tailgate like once or twice...every time....after I close it lol

I have a 2014 and did the exact same thing. I didn't even think about turning it in under warranty. I've already deleted the pictures and the tailgate has been fixed at my expense.

Sucks that happened. Pretty sure there is another thread about this, and it's not an issue of user error not closing it correctly. Pretty sure it's part of the auto lock

Idk why, but when I see all your Canadian toys I think of the YT channel "ostacruiser"

I got one of those ezee shocks on mine best 25 bucks ever spent no crashing tailgate chevy does ot factory now with dodge would

My '13 has a dent from the previous owner. Based on the location, I can only assume something similar happened.

proper lubing fixes the issue

Nice sled

I have a 2015 sport reg cab and my tail gate has came slamming down while driving a few times, but Only In The winter and I do have the stock tri fold tonnue cover. In my case I think it's the cover that won't let my
Tail gate close " even though I have did a test pull on the gate after closing".

Sweet sled I'm thinking about going to a turbo after blowing my 2 stroke 800 up with 500 miles this year.
