I have been looking on Craigslist for some 33" and 35" tires.

I found two sets. One is a 33 12.50 20 Kumho Road Venture MT tires. They have about 15,000 miles and two have cupping (since they cannot be rotated properly-what the guy told me). He wants $200 for all 4. Is it worth buying?

The other is a 35x12.50x20 like new AMP A/T for $560.

Those Kumho's are worthless. Never buy cupped tires. You'll get a rough ride, and have a terrible time trying to balance them. The Amp tires look fairly new. You'd have to take an up close look at them to make sure there's no uneven wear or cupping.

I put it right above he picture. Probably a bad idea as it could get missed.

Okay, thank you very much. I had no idea what cupped was until I googled it.

Yes, the other ones are "like new". I need to call for more info. He is firm on the $560. Is it worth it if everything checks out?

There's a reason for selling " like new" tires. Amp tires have a bad rep for vibrations and being unbalanced. I'd skip both sets if I were you.

I just called the guy and they are virtually new. He measure the tread on a new one and it is basically the same on these "like news". He told me he would take $500 out the door with no install.

Okay , thank you. I called the guy and they but it from a local company going out of business. The tread measurement is basically the same as a new one.

not to mention waste the cost of mounting to just have to get new tires again... In alot of cases used tires actually cost you more when you factor in the mount and balance costs

i would figure 100-150 for mounting and balancing. The question is for $500 can you "deal" with possible vibrations from not being able to balance?

Yeah most shops around me charge $25-40 a tire, but iuts the short life (miles left) and having to do it again cause there isn't much life on the tire... By the time your done you have gone through 3 sets of tires to equal the mileage of the new set with only 1 mounting cost....
Not wrong to go either way just something to remember... I'll buy used tires for the vehicles I don't drive that much. The daily's get new hides though.

Yeah, the kumho is a directional tire and cannot be rotated properly without dismounting. Mounted they can only be rotated front to back same side but even if you do that regular enough they won't cup. Basically the ones that were on the front cupped from never being rotated. The guy ruined a good set of tires by neglecting them, definitely shy away from those.

The other set doesn't look terrible. I've never heard of them but that doesn't mean they aren't good. For 1/3 the price of a set of nittos if they last only half as long you're money ahead. You can still see the nubs on the one and as long as he's not hiding a flat spot on the back side I'd try them if cost came to it.

I used to get a cheap used set every summer for my old truck, burn them up and put the good set back on for the winter. I could usually get 3 good winters out of every new set I purchased. The key is looking them over good for broken cords, odd wear, flat spots, sidewall damage etc.
