I'm thinking about getting a cap for my CC short bed. Wondering if any members who have this setup would post a pic or two? I currently have a Yakima Load Warrior basked mount above the bed and I'll probably relocate it to the top of the cap. My wife isn't in favor of the idea so I'm hoping a few pics might change her mind.

I've read about a loss in fuel economy with a cap, how much did you see when you installed yours?

TIA

I am thinking about getting one down the road because the short bed with my Bakflip Fibermax is packed on road trips and trips to the beach. I am not a real fan of them, but the may suit my needs better. If I do it I am going to level it, put on larger tires with 17-18 inch wheels.

Edit: have to throw a Bedrug in the back also. The dog has to ride in comfort too.

Here is my 2011 with a Leer cap, mid range pricing $1500 Cdn. I no longer own this truck, now have a 2014 Express also with a Leer only this time I went with the silver cap. The box was just too small at 5'3".

If the wife isn't digging it, check out convertible camper shells. You can use it as needed and don't have to worry about storage like a fiberglass shell. Also keeps your truck from looking like a suburban!

Searay or field do you have any close up pictures of how the back door seals against the tailgate?

^^^ It all depends on the model / brand. Some will come with a curved portion on the bottom of the door:

And some (like mine) come with a cap that adheres to the surface of the tailgate. The rear glass door will be flush against that piece for a nice seal:

The cap on my last truck (pictures on last post) had the tailgate cap, the new truck pictured here did not get one. Again as mentioned it depends on the brand. The issue I have is the terrible seal (or total lack of) of the tailgate to box. I will be putting on strip molding along the bed sides and bottom to properly seal this area. I am constantly traveling gravel roads and the interior of the box always gets a coating of dust. Just trying to find the best solution. I have seen the seal kits online but found they are just strips of generic seal and at a ridiculous price. Hope this helps. ((sorry one picture is not oriented properly)).

When you come up with a fix for your terrible seal PLEASE tell me how you did it! My brand new ARE cap is TERRIBLE as GALLONS of water enter the pickup bed and rear dor. when I open the rear door I get a waterfall from the lock mechanism and ends of shroud.The door drains water for 30 seconds and top of tailgate has water overflowing into pickup bed. Part of the problem are short seals ate ends of shroud, door and frame of cap. ARE knows the problem exists and has a fix but the holes and gaps are too large on my cap. The door shroud is too short and does not even seal against tailgate top. I have an electric wheelchair lift inside the bed and that gets wet every time I drive in the rain or snow just from the gaps in door and cap. see images;
one image of rt side exterior door shroud is not in contact with tailgate shroud.
2nd image :view from inside under cap door closed with flashlight from outside it shows gap and area in yellow shows gap between top of tail gate and door shroud.
I owned an ARE cap without one leak on a 1999 Ram pickup and did not have one problem or leak, that is why I chose to go back to ARE, but I guess quality has gone down out the window at ARE since 1999. I was promised a dry environment for my power wheelchair and electric lift but they get just as wet as if they were in the rain or snow storm.
DO NOT BUY ARE CAP: NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT
