Guy at my local Americas Tire shop told me that the biggest tired I could fit on my factory 20'' wheels is 275/60 20. Those are the numbers he wrote down for me to take home. I don't know what the numbers mean as I have never dealt with anything like this before. My previous truck was a Chevy S10.

Do those numbers make sense to people in the know? Are those the biggest I can put on my stock 20'' wheels? My factory tires already look a little weak to me and will look more so when I eventually level the truck. I don't do any off-roading and am not interesting in lowering my already very low 11MPG in the city. My truck is 2WD btw. Thanks.

I would do 275/65r20 when you get it leveled it won't rub or kill your mpg

If you get a level you can run 35's on the stock wheels. most likely need a spacer in the front, you'll rub at full lock or close to it.

I think he is talking about dropping the rear for a level. A good person to talk to on this subject is Tylerb. If I remember right he has changed his tire height to complement a gear change.

Oh miss understood when you said you didn't want to lower MPG. It usually goes down when you raise the vehicle into the air more. 295/60R20 will be close it would be about and inch wider and taller. 275/65R20 is also a good option as stated above. Ill break it down for you real quick.
275 is the tread width in mm
65 is section height in mm which is a % of the tread width (i can't remember the formula for it at the moment)
R is radial if you see an X here it will more than likely be a bias ply tire
20 is your rim size
Hope this helps you out and if you do some research on different tires you can get some pretty crazy wheel and tire combos on our trucks with minimal modifications. Also not every tire manufacturers tires are the same size. Toyo 275/65R20 is 34in tall while Goodyear 275/65R20 might be 33.8in tall and that counts for something when you are talking about barely rubbing.

Thanks for the break down. I'm not looking to do any modifications to make bigger tires fit. Maybe I misunderstand what you're saying. I also don't want tires that rub anything no matter which way I turn the steering wheel. I wouldn't mind selling my current tires and then buying something beefier while spending maybe $200 more then what I can get for my current tires. Does it sound like I could pull it off?

Some places will not put tires bigger than the stock size, maybe that is why the guy told you 275/60/20.

Now when you say bigger do you mean taller or wider or both?

I guess I want taller? When i look at a rear tire of the truck, the stock tire looks small in the wheel well (not sure if I spelled that correctly). So I know that if I lift the front to level the truck, then both the front and back tires will look too small in the wheel well. Am I explaining that correctly? Haha

So what size should I be shopping for to keep overall dimensions similar to stock on my 2013 Longhorn when it gets here, but drop down to a 17" wheel?

I would doubt it very much since you are selling a used set of tire people want them at used prices no matter how good they look. I would bet you wouldn't get anymore than 300 to 400 bucks at the most. My neck of the woods a shop would give you 200 tops. Now for a decent aggressive looking tire you will be at about 1000 bucks this is an estimation off of a middle of the road tire. Its a shame tires have gone up over 30% in the last 3 years so finding 20's for decent price isn't easy anymore.

Anything in a 17 that will keep it about 33in tall. So like a 285/75R17 or 285/70/17 one is way more common then the other and I can't remember which one is right off the top of my head.

Thanks for the info. Do you think that applies even though I only have 1800 miles on my current tires?

275/60/20

275=width in mm 60= 60% of width is the sidewall height 20 = rim size

First to get your width in inches you divide the width (275) or whatever size you are trying to convert by 25.4 So in this case 275/25.4= 10.83 inches wide

Then you take the number you just got by dividing your width by 25.4 and multiply it by the percentage number represented by a decimal. So in this case you turn 60% into .60 and multimply it by 10.83 10.83x.60 = 6.49 inches This is your sidewall height

Finally you multiply the sidewall height that you just got (6.49) by 2 and add it to the rim diameter to get the overall height or diameter of the tire 6.49 x 2= 12.98 + 20 = 32.98 in. This is the height of a factory tire which is the size the guy gave you.

the formula for tire size is then: [( (W/25.4) * .6) * 2] + rim d = tire height

Now you can calculate sizes out on your own hopefully. If you are going to level obviously you can fit something bigger than the size the tire guy told you.

Is 275/65r20 the consensus here?

What do you guys think I could get for my factory Goodyear tires w/ 1800 miles on them?

You already got the answers you needed, you wont get much for the tires maybe 100 a piece if youre lucky. That tire size 275/65/20 is only slightly larger than stock so it should fit on a non leveled truck but you could rub a bit in the front. Those would be about 34 inches tall.

Could rub in the front even after lifting the front to level the truck?

No only if you are putting them on stock, if you are leveled they shouldnt rub at all.
