I do a few trips a year where I fill up the bed with stuff and need it covered so things don't fly out. Own a boat so occasionally haul a bunch of stuff back and forth for that.

Also get roped into moving larger items like couches, etc, which I guess would require removing the cover.

I have the Access Original roll up cover and its awesome. Rolls up easily only takes one person. It keeps my bed bone dry. Ive had a foot of snow and ice on it and it never bothered it. I will buy another one for my next truck.

If you get a fiberglass hard cover you will be limited to carrying stuff less than about 24" tall if you want to close the cover. They are however water tight and provide security for your stuff. They take a couple of people to remove them though. They can be color matched and look really good. They are probably the most pricey of all the covers. I have not had any experience with the roll up type or the tri fold types so I can't speak about how good they do but they seem to be better for removal and being able to carry "taller loads" when they are folded back. I have read that they do a good job of keeping water out and they are less expensive than the fiberglass covers.

Hi mikegmi2,
If the bed on your new truck is 6'4", I might be able to help you save some money.
I bought a Trifecta trifold canvas tonneau cover for my 2012 Ram 1500 Express for $450 when I got my truck and it was a great cover. Well built, folds easily and with the attached straps will stay open if need be on the road. I then replaced it within a year to a Leer cap to get the air up and over our travel trailer so if you're interested, I could let you have my tonneau cover for $125 and I'll share shipping with you. I live in northern Arizona and the cover has been in storage in a shed all this time. If you're not interested, I found the trifold to be a very practical and handy, weather resitant cover. But there are lots of great covers out there.
Adios,

Undercover Flex. Looks great and easy install. Was a toss up between undercover and backflip. Undercover won out as it does not touch the cab when folded up like the Bakflip.

I bought a max mate on Amazon. It's cheap, about $250, but it's water tight and does what we need. Definitely not as nice as a bakflip, but does the job.

If you have some serious money burning a hole in your pockets, empty them all and get a Diamondback cover. They lock, are waterproof, and are very tough. Put a quad on top and all your gear underneath.

I've been considering one of these. But was concerned it seems to be aluminum. Worried about denting & noise going down the road. Have you had either of those problems? I really like the way it collapses completely & removes so easily. I have not seen the weather sealant package on any listings. What is that?

Thanks,
Tuckerdog1

Sorry about the late response. Just started a new job and have been swamped learning the ins and outs.

The weather sealant package is extra weather stripping that goes against your tailgate when you shut it. I haven't had any issues with the cover in any way shape or form. I've loaded a snowmachine in the bed with the cover out and with the cover just folded up and pushed to the front. No noises or bends in the metal. I will say this, I wish I had opted to get the double lock where there is a locking pin on both sides. Just seems sturdier to me. And if you go through the car wash the air dry blower will push open your cover if your lock is not set haha. Found that out pretty quick. I keep my cover locked most the time anyways.

Another vote for Undercover Flex. It is similar to Bak cover with some minor improvements. This tonno is water resistant, and more affordable than the Bak.

surprised nobody has mentioned the retrax. I installed the retrax pro on my truck in January and it has exceeded my expectations. Yes its on the pricey side but it is rock solid and after adding the tailgate sealer have not had a drop of water in the bed. I had a backflip on my 2010 and i would term it as adequate at best....some small leaking but it never felt solid and it always bugged me watching it buffet at highway speed in any kind of windy condition.....the rubber started warping and cracking after about 18 months of use.

I got the Bakflip VP brand new for about $80 less than the Undercover. Still, both are very nice and great designs.
