Tow Hooks

I just bought a set of oem tow hooks for a 1500 for $60 off ebay but they don't come with the mounting bolts. Anybody know the size bolts required. I know my local Ace has a very wide selection of grade 8 botls available.

While I can't answer your question, I'm curious too. I'd like some tow hooks, and I too have an ACE with lots of cute little bolts. So, i look forward to the answer.

Yea. Guy had them listed as $99 or best offer. They were removed from a brand new vehicle. Took a shot on the offer and it was accepted. So now I just gotta figure out the size of the bolt that thread into the frame. Pick up two of those and I'm in business.

Bolts are manly and rugged, not cute! If your Ace is as helpful as mine the helpful hardware man will walk out and take a look to get a rough idea and then grab a couple of strong masculine bolts and go back out and try them.

Called the dealer. 12mm 1.5 thread pitch 65mm long grade 8. $7 later at ace and I have my bolts.

They were not standard on my silverado either ,unless you got the Z71.

The Ram tow hooks are now part of a package called the "protection package". Keep in mind that if you buy the tow hooks, you also need the steel brackets behind them that attach to the frame. Otherwise don't plan on ever using them to pull the truck.
I got lucky when I bought my 2500, there was another truck at the dealer that was getting a snow plow put on, he didn't want the hooks so the dealer gave me the hooks, brackets, bolts, everything.

The 1500 hooks are different than the 2500. They use the existing bumper bolts and then 1 bolt that is threaded into the frame. I actually think this is a much better design than what they use on the 2500. I've heard of 2500s having issues with their bumper getting pulled out of alignment because the hooks are only attached to the bumper brackets. With the design of the 1500 hook there is an attachment to the actual frame.

This is what I done to my 14 Express , I know they are not intended for yanking vehicles out of the ditch , but I did pull a tundra and a civic out a couple weeks ago and the worked great with zero issues to my bumper.

I bought used 1500 hooks that didn't come with the 90° bracket to mount to the frame? Anyone know if the dealer sells just that part?

Maybe but you'd probably just be better off just fabing it yourself. That is assuming you have the ability to bend heavy gauge steel.

Well the HD hooks attach to the frame as well, I think the problem is that people are putting them on without those frame brackets, which of course creates a problem waiting to happen.

Yeah those are the brackets and such for the HD that came with mine. But I think your post ought to be in the classified section....

I had the dealership throw in tow hooks when I bought my truck but they came mounted to the new brackets and bumper bracket. So all I gotta do it pull the bumper off and replace the current bumper bracket with the new ones with the hooks
