Been raining here for about 5 days straight. It finally stopped. Needed to get something out of my back storage area under the back seat. and what i found floored me. I had about an inch of standing water in it. So off to the dealer i go to hopefully have it resolved. There must be a on going problem, because they have a guy that only does water intrusion into the cab. This really sucks!!

That sucks! Got any pics? We're you able to see where it may have been coming from? Got a sunroof? Third brake light loose?

Third brake light has always been a common source for water leaks on the Ram trucks.

Literally the first thing I'm doing when my new 2500 gets in is replacing the third brake light seal. Not taking any chances.

I had this same issue with my 2011, 2013 trucks..but my 2016 and my current 2017 1500s haven't had this issue. It's a simple fix like others have said, but the dealer will probably take all day with it.

I had this issue with my 2011 1500. It wasn't the brake light, it was the seams. On the top of the cab on each side there is a welded seam with a piece of black rubber covering them up. Slightly pull up the rear of the rubber and squeeze a bit of clear silicone sealant into the seam of the metal joint. Done! Hasn't leaked in years.

I just had that rubber replaced on both sides. It was coming up in the back on one side. Dealer replaced them both.

I have a 2016 and check the rear area every time it rains because of these threads. I wonder if there is a pattern to this? Mexican / American, weekend builds, Monday builds, etc.

I was under the impression the brake light gasket was upgraded for 2016?

The gasket is the same I have a 2016. Same as the one that was on my 2011 as far as I can tell. Here's a video on how to fix it. Dealership will either just put a new gasket on it, an entirely new third brake light, or they'll seal it with RTV silicone. Honestly I don't think I'd want it silicone'd because that's a pain if you need to change your bulbs for whatever reason. If the TBL is the issue, check it when you get the truck back, and I highly recommend this quick and easy fix.

I went to Home Depot and bought the new weatherstrip. But climbing in the back of the truck I notice mine is a very nice, tight fit with under 1/4" gap at the max. In fact, the sides were nearly touching. Like I said, mine has never leaked (I've only owned it a month.....)

Since my truck is silver, I just ran a bead of clear silicone around the crack and will keep an eye on it. If I need to change a bulb I'll change the weatherstrip, but I never changed a bulb in my 2005 Ram.

My 2015 was leaking, but it wasn't coming from the 3rd brake light. I had fixed that issue a long time ago, and it was still leaking. I traced it down to the very corners of the rear window where the black rubber strip on top of the roof comes down to the window. Right under the tip of it there is a hole like the window wasn't sealed properly. I put a little silicone in the hole, and no more leak!

Well got my truck from the dealer today. They found the back sliding window, electric operated, drains were plugged. The window seal was assembled at the factory incorrectly. It was upside down. Bottom at top and top at bottom. They had to remove the entire window and place a new gasket on it.

On a positive note. they finally got my LED DRLS turned on. The service guy had all sales codes entered into my truck. They had to delete them all and have only one, right one, turned on. Now i have my drls on and a dry truck!!

Good deal.

What did the dealership do about the mildew?
