What kind of 3rd brake light are you running.

I have this on the way...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/361891615708

There's a lot more options from there. Not sure I'll be happy with this one, but it was cheaper to add it in with my new tail lights.. figure I'll try it. Saving critique until I have it in from the of me.

I'm thinking I can just replace the stock bulbs with led bulbs. Any clue? Or is it a sealed unit

Not sealed...It's got bulbs. Just confirm whether or not you need resistor. AND, make sure the light has a good seal when you put it back....our trucks are known for leaking here into the headliner.

It's not a sealed unit at all, it can be done but I don't recommend it due to depending what led bulb you it might give you a brake light out error message.
Your best bet is getting an aftermarket led 3rd brake light that already comes with resistors to avoid any light out messages. The price will be around the same as if you would be buying led bulbs and cargo lights if you want to upgrade that as well.
I got mine on eBay for $40 no problems at all and they look great and bright

Basically every other light is LED on the truck all of the exterior and interior lights are led from the factory except the 3rd brake light and license plate lamps. I already converted the license plate lamps to LED with no resistors or canbus bulbs. Haven't had an issue. I'm assuming I won't need resistors or canbus bulbs for the 3rd brake lamp either. am I right?

I didn't know they had a warning message. These should solve that shouldn't they?

Mine blinks fast like a pulse ,when you first hit the brake pedal. Like ones you see on emergency vehicles.

How'd you get them to do that? I've seen that on several cars before where they flash like 3-5 times when you first hit the brake

I have a recon on my 2015... it comes with a built in resistor so no error codes or hyperflashing. Works great took me 5 minutes to install.

Should be fine....I've recently swapped plate bulbs and fog lights....No resistors.

Resistors mainly needed for reverse lights and aftermarket headlights with DRLs.

I honestly don't know how it was done on my truck. The dealer does it to them as part of a dealer prep.

Just ordered 5 of those canbus 921 bulbs for my work lights 3rd brake light and reverse lights. 25 bucks for all 5 not including shipping. They do not cause any warnings. Still thinking about ordering the flashers too.
