I have a new Ram waiting for me when i return from overseas.

I have a strong desire to at least level it and put bigger tires on it.

Only thing desire and need is not the same.

The stock wheels are 20" with 33". Kind of feels like replacing brand new wheels and tire is bit of a waste. Especially since my projected budget has shrunk a bit. Thinking of using Toyo ATIIs

I am considering using the stock wheels but they will not stick out a bit like i would like without using a spacer.

I have one life long lifted truck friend enthusiast.

His opnion is never use wheel spacer because the can come loose and are not worth the risk.

Curios if any one else has a view on using spacers?

Thanks!

Lots of guys, including myself run spacers without problems. Get a quality hub/wheel centric set, and you should be fine. I have 1.5" BORA spacers to run my stock rims for my winter set up.

They are as likely to come off as any part on your truck that hasn't been torqued and fastened correctly. I run 1.5 hubcentrics from supreme suspensions.

Like anything else, if you take the time to install it properly then you won't have a failure. I've had a set of 1.75" on the rear for a year now and I make a hell of a lot more horsepower than most people, I also know plenty of guys running spacers on their diesel rigs who are making 1500+ft-lb. The most common mistake when installing spacers is that the studs on the truck side stick out past the face of the spacer and the wheel doesn't have reliefs in the back so the wheel is actually sitting 1/16" or so away from the mounting face which causes the spacer's studs to shear off and the wheel falls off.

What these guys have said.

I ran BORA wheel adaptors on my 2014 for 2 years and 35,000 kms without issue. Just make sure they're torqued to spec, and check them when you rotate your tires.

Make sure that whatever you get is hubcentric.

I think the hardest decision would be trying to determine what size spacers to go with. Torque them correctly at install, and then again after a 100 miles or so. Do the same after every tire rotation and you'll be good.

I want to do this but don't really want to purchase aftermarket wheels would this be possible with the stock black 20 inch wheels. And if so would a 2 inch hub centric spacer be to much ?

Same as the others have said. If you get a quality spacer you'll have no issues.

I've got the Bora 1.5" hubcentric spacers for my winter setup with the stock 20's.

Bringing this back up since I am ordering some Bora's soon. So to the guys with the 1.5" do the fronts and backs look equal looking down the side? Would it be better to get 1.75" for rears with 1.5" fronts? They will be on sport 20x9 295/65
Thanks

If I was going to do it over, I'd go this route. 1.5" all around looks fine but on close inspection you can tell the rears sit in slightly.

Not a big issue by any stretch.

I think the front and back difference is more pronounced with the 2wd's and the spindle lifts? Maybe I'm wrong. I honestly can't tell a difference at all with my truck, but I haven't gotten the tape out to measure.

I was thinking about put spacers on my truck as well. I've read that with 1.5" spacers, the studs will need to be trimmed down a bit. For folks with 1.5" spacers, is this true?

Thx

I'm using the stock chrome clads and they have a cavity in the back of the wheel so it wasn't an issue, BUT all wheels won't be this way. With 1.5" spacers the studs protrude about 1/16".

Yeah I think 2wd is maybe more pronounced.
Looked at it tonight and I think it's the front fender body lines that make it look out a touch more. Looking down the side from the back I can't see the front sticking out past the back tire. I think just gonna do 1.5" f/r bora.... Time to get out the old Visa

Same thing with the aluminum Sport 20" wheels. The cavity in the back of the spokes prevents the need for trimming.
