I have a question about wheel spacers on 6" lift. I spoke with the shop that installed my Bilsteins about a 6" lift. The owner told me I would have to purchase a new set of wheels, as my factory wheels won't align with it. I asked him about wheel spacers. He told me, "No, they are unsafe and I won't install them." Are wheel spacers unsafe, or is he looking to get a sale on wheels?

For the most part he is wanting to sell you wheels.
I say for the most part because there are some people that honestly believe that wheel spacers are dangerous.

IMO they are fine and many many people run them with zero problems.

Thank you for the info. What is so dangerous about a wheel spacers? It might be my lack of knowledge, but all I know they do is just push out the wheel correct?

Yes thats it.
Some cheap ones dont fit well or dont get installed correctly and can come loose causing the wheel to come off.
A good set of hub centric spacers and the proper torque will be just fine.

Do you use them? What brand spacers do you recommend and what is the proper torque?

Some states they are not even street legal I believe. Now If installed properly and they are quality spacers I would say they are not dangerous

I use 2" BORA spacers on my truck

Bottom line is if you install per the directions you will be fine.

Spacers are not the place to save money, pony up the cash for the high quality hubcentric BORA spacers and you are good to go

If the bore on you wheels is larger then the hubs grab some hubcentric rings

I take it a 2" spacer for a 6" life will suffice?

The width of tire you decide to run, and how far you want the tires to stick past the fenders are what will determine the spacer width.

I'm running 35x12.50's on stock wheels, with 2"spacers. If I didn't have the flares, I'd have a lot of tire sticking out.

Also, depending on the rims you have, if you use 1.5" or less spacers, you may need to trim the stock wheel studs.

Size of spacer depends on how far you want the stock wheels to stick out..just like different backspacing/offsets on wheels

Correct, I don't want to trim the factory studs. The custom offset video said the factory studs cannot come through the spacer or your wheels will fall off. I don't know the exact measurements for a 17' Sport wheel stud.

I would be using the stock 20" wheels on a 6" lift and 37" tires.

Usually the stock wheels have indents in the back that would clear the studs with 1.5" spacers but you could also split the difference and get 1.75" spacer if 2" sticks out too far

Awesome thank you. What is the best/reputable place to buy the bora spacers?

You can get them from custom offsets. They have to be made per order so expect to wait a minimum Of about 3 weeks

Gotcha. Thank you.

Lastly, why does a 6" lift require a wheel spacers or custom wheels with back spacing? What does the lift do that doesn't allow the stock wheels?

I think it has something to do with the new knuckle. Others that know should chime in
