Wheels offsets

So I thought I understood wheel offsets, but maybe not. So if I have a -12 offset that makes the rim and tire stick out or it makes the rim and tire sit more into the truck?

The offset is how + or - the center of the wheel is. Say the wheel is 8 inches wide and you have 4 inches of back space, which would give you 4 inches in front of the lugnuts too. Which is centered so you have a 0 offset. if the offset it sunk back or - it would give you more of a lip. So the combination of the back space and offset decides how far the wheel would stick out. Just going strictly off the offset will not tell you unless comparing between a same width wheel

You know how you see those cars and trucks running down the road on 15" wheels and they stick WAY out? They look like ****, which is a negative. Good way to remember which way is -/+

-12 on a 17'' rim will stick out just the right amount IMO, thats why I picked that offset. just a few inches outside of my finders and if you had flare it would cover completely. My biggest complaint is that it throughs the slush from the snow all up the side of the truck.
