I have a clicking noise coming from my dash and the heat on the passenger side doesnt blow as hot as the driver side. I have removed the console and found four of the five actuators. Two behind the climate controls, one behind glove box and one on the recurt. i have removed these listed and checked the door operation by hand along with opening the actuators and checking for damage. if someone has a diagram that would greatly help me.

Sometimes the actuators break on these things, but it is usually a broken blend, mode, or recirc door. It happens a lot and it is a very expensive fix if you take it to a mechanic. A lot of times they will replace the entire plenum box. I had the problem with my truck and I was quoted 1800 bucks to repair it. I looked online and found a few DIY solutions. I tried a few. I found out that unless you remove the plenum it is very difficult to locate all of the doors.

After getting a little overwhelmed I ordered a kit. It was from a company called heatertreater and it contained replacement steel doors. More importantly it included very detailed instructions and I was able to make all of the cuts with confidence. I didn't have to remove the box. By far the best solution out there IMO.

Wish heatertreater had something to fix my 2013 Ram's Recirc Door that cracked where it connects to the actuator.

A tech at my dealership told me to do this. Whenever you're changing modes or temperature on the HVAC system, turn the fan down to the lowest speed. That way the blend doors have less force applied to them as they're moving. It'll help prolong the actuators life. Makes sense, if you have the fan on high and say you change from defrost to the vents, the door has to push against all that air pressure...

I'm now having this issue and am wondering what happened with yours? Was it the actuator or the door itself?
Does anyone know a way of changing the right temperature actuator without pulling the dash?
Thanks

If it's the actuator I'm thinking of the whole dash has to come out to get to it. Not sure if the HVAC unit does as well...

taking the unit out??

i got to one of the front actuators today. its not working. I assume the others are not as well especially the right temp control. I am considering cutting opened the firewall to get to it. Any thoughts on that? I would have to map out exactly where it is make sure there are no wires in the way or anything else but if I can get to that area I might just cut it opened. then make a replacement plate to cover the hole and be done with it. i cannot take the entire unit out I dont have the back nor the hand dexterity to do it. i cannot bend at all just playing with the one in front that doesnt work killed me. so I guess the thought is cut the fire wall opened to get to the rear actuator. Im heading to fla in the next 15 days and need ac or the truck is going to suck riding in. Im almost sorry I got this dodge. I have had an 03 and 04 and now this 2010 all have had heater issues dont know why I keep going back to RAM trucks. Probably because I think they are the best but the issues really are awful. the the way HEMI thanks for the response

You definitely could do that but just keep in mind most firewalls are pretty thick metal and there is a layer of insulation on the inside you have to cut through.

This video might give you an idea where to cut the hole:

ok thanks Hemi 395. The video unfortunetly doesnt show a rear actuator and its location I have that dual zone thing with 4 actuators. I reall and going to have to try and get back in there when we get the replacement actuators and open up the front try to reach in back or use a mirror and see exactly where it is. then I will probably run a long pointed bard up to fire wal and beat it to give a mark on the outside of firewall that should show me where it is. if it is too low then I wont be able to cut a hole anyway due to the engine. I am also installing a suggestion from my mechanic a mechanical heatercore valve, he said it will shut off the heat and at the very least of I cant get to the actuator it will shut off the heat when I need to. I know its a half ass fix but its a temp thing to stop it from blowing heat especially on the passenger side.

Maybe someone can help or I’m not seeing this was already answered but I’m having this blend door issue along with the recirculating actuator clicking issue. My question is would this problem cause the system to not operate electrically intermittently? Is there a safety protocol that forces the electrical portion to shut down across the board or has anyone experienced this besides me?

Another old thread bump.

My 09 Ram might have one of these blend door problems.
Driving home tonight and I only get heat on the drivers side. Passenger side is cool.

I read theirs a blend door behind the glove box. Would this be the one I need to replace?
Would these be #2 on the diagram?

Luckily if it's the driver's side actuator that's bad it's right behind the glove box. The passenger side one requires removing the dash.......

So if the drivers side one is bad the drivers side would be blowing cold? (I have the heat on)
If the passenger side one if bad the passenger side would be blowing cold?

Noticed this morning. When I put it on defroster on. It blows cold as does floor/feet position.
The rear seat vents blow hot though. lol

I'm just trying to figure out which one is bad.
Thanks

Correct, whichever one is bad wont be doing what you want it to do. Do hear any clicking?

Here's a pic of the actuator locations1748b4b05d20a5ffe2557d3bb0b45ef7.jpg

Well, I just heard the tapping. Very light when I went to lunch.

IT's hard to tell which one it is, but if I'm getting cold air on the pass side. It's probably the one in the back.:mad:
