Very sturdy. All plug and play on mine. I have a 2014 express crew cab 4x4 with factory 5.0 radio. Did the 8.4 upgrade at the same time. Seatsandsuch on Facebook and eBay sell the consoles all the time, generally around $500 a $600 bucks. FWIW, the console and 8.4 were from a 2016 model.

Short story long, my truck had the lower 12v plug lower left and USB plug lower right of the dash. With the center console swap, the under lid USB aux SD card adapter and 12v plug on the back by the vents plugged into the factory harness under the drivers seat. The open bin 12v on the console plugged into the where the old 12v from lower dash was. All plugs work. I don't use aux or SD cards so I'm not sure. Maybe someone else can chime in.
