I have a 2009 Dodge Ram. Recently, I will hear a loud knocking noise behind the dash and my air conditioner and heater will ONLY blow out at the feet! Does anybody know where I need to start with this issue, or have experienced this themselves? With the TX summer around the corner, I need to get this thing taken care of.

Thank you!

Yes, it's a common failure. The HVAC blend door and/or motor is starting to fail.

Do you have any warranty left ? If it is the blend door I think the dash has to cOme out to get to it

I was thinking the same thing.....I know the blend door issue was a common problem on durangos//dakotas too, (like my 2003 Durango I traded in)

The power wires for the blower were also common trouble areas.....melting at the blower plug. Wonder if that is an issue on the 4th gen rams too?

If you are not getting any heat anywhere it's the t-stat. And yes it's under the hood. Easy to change drain some coolant. There is a shut off valve under the radiator driver side. Drain it in a clean bucket. Drain just enough that the radiator hose holds zero fluid. Take off the 2 screws at the end of the hose going to the block. Inside is the t-stat. Replace with a 15 dollar napa gold stat. Put all back together and put the fluid back in the radiator.

Now this is only if you are getting zero heat. Meaning the stat is not opening and closing like it should.

Had to do this a time or two in my old rams b

This is a company who made a DIY kit for the HVAC blender door problem, all you have to do is cut a slot, pull out the old one, put in the new one, and seal it back up.

The new door is all metal and has a metal hinge, so you don't have to worry about it warping or the hinge breaking. They have kits for 2nd and 3rd gens. (link above)
