Rubber thingy in the center console?

Just upgraded to the 2016 RAM 2500 with the Longhorn package.

The center console has the retracting lid and, inside the console, is this rubber thingy that takes up about 1/3 of the space. It is above the charger.

Any idea what this is intended to do and if it is removable? I can find nothing on this item in either the Owner's manual or in the User Guide.

Never though about it being a cell phone holder. I'll get a picture and post it tomorrow. It's dark now.

I believe you are describing the small tablet or smartphone holder. You push your tablet/smartphone down into it a little bit, and it softly grips it so that it doesn't move or vibrate. The 2016+ also come with better cupholders, so I actually bought the upper console piece and converted my 2014 to the 2016 design. Loving it!

This isn't a Longhorn (its a Rebel without the rolling cover), but you should get the idea.

It actually works very well at holding your phone too. If you look close there are two symbols molded into the rubber near the notches that look like a cell phone

Yep, and it has cutouts for the charging cord, too.

It is a cool feature but with the uConnect stereo I find I never need to take my phone out of my pocket....blue tooth for the phone and music. Love the "read my text message" feature.
