I'm sure this might have been covered before but could not find a thread about this particular situation.

I have a 2012 Big Horn Quad cab And just recently started noticing that under my rear seats in the corners that the floor is wet. There are no wet spots on the headliner but once there was water beads on the seatback.
Today when I checked the bottom of the right seat back and the floor was soaked and everything else was dry.
Anyone else have this water intrusion issue?

Had the same issue in my 12' 1500. 12e0898d82e28f20ca9acbad0af91f90.jpghad a puddle of water to the blue line. Had tools in there to where the black line is, had to have been there a while cause it was starting to leave rust spots. I dried it up real good with a towel and placed a rice filled sock to help absorb moisture. Ended up being leaking 3rd break light. Replaced cheap foam with quality weather stripping and never leaked again. Did it to my 15' 2500 as a precaution.aaf6ea93116752597752bbc578babc4d.jpg8902d3657c7f0e2471ec9b32bf21c55c.jpg0e91b0cd480b6178acd126b34d6adff1.jpg55de1c9bd822b54909eb387cab5c30d2.jpge82704e56935605e27d234660d21c07c.jpg

Thanks. I even had a hose running in that area for an hour and the truck stayed dry.
??????
No water anywhere else just under the seats and the seat back.
Ill reseal the light and let you know if it stops. Probably will Judging by what I've been reading.

Thanks again

I'd say that's about a 99% chance that it's your 3rd brake light. Luckily, I did not have an issue with mine. But, when I bought an aftermarket version, I went ahead and added that same weatherstripping just to make sure.

I had the same issue with my 3rd brake light........I ended up silicone sealing it. Unfortunately, my rear window was also leaking. RAM fixed both under warranty btw.

not every truck has the issue, but i would say its safe to assume that the 17's are susceptible to it

It seems that leaks through the third brake light is common in all brands. I have a friend with an '07 F150 who had it, my wife's '11 Subaru Outback has it, my '01 Dakota had it, on the Miata.net forum it is a cause of water in the trunk, and I suppose my '14 RAM will develop it. My fix was simply a bead of silicone but I suppose if the gasket is broken a replacement of some sort is advised before the silicone is used.

Just a note to anyone having this problem fixed by the dealer.

After some arguing I got the dealer to agree to fix the seal on my truck. I had to wait 3 weeks to bring it in because the "leak specialist" only comes once a month. At the time 2 of the bulbs were out in the third brake light housing and I bought LED replacements that I wasn't going to change until after they fixed the problem just in case they put a whole new light in. After I got the truck back I went to replace the bulbs only to find the dealer had siliconed the light to the truck. They didn't even bother to replace the bad bulbs. I had to cut through the silicone. Scrape everything off and redo it myself. Had I realized the kind of repair they were doing I'd have done it myself.

I swapped my 3rd brake light on my 17 for the Recon led and used that auto/marine weather strip as well. The stock light still comes with the crappy (non)weather seal. I'd change it even if you don't change the light.

I replaced the 3rd brake light gasket with the one shown above and also replaced the satellite antenna gasket. I'm still getting puddles of water under my rear seats. I'll be dropping my truck off at the body shop next week and they will drop the headliner and run water over the truck and find this leak once and for all. They Will also remove everything and make sure it's all dry the inside of my truck smells like a wet dog it makes me so upset.

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to have a link to the Recon led you used?

Same

I had this same issue on my 2014 1500, and replacing the 3rd brake light was the fix.

If it's not the light it's the rear window seal.

Hi there, It's been a while but I thought I'd post an update as I said I would so long ago. The 3M weather strip worked beautifully, Thanks Juvenator93. It works so well that a year later after pulling the 3rd brake light to swap lamps to LEDs, the new gasket still works like a charm.

I had the same problem with my 17 Rebel. Change the brake light gasket with a new gasket from a company that I found on this forum. Can't remember the name of the company. Long story short, I was still getting water under the rear passenger seat. After about an hour of troubleshooting, I found out it was the bottom seal on the sliding back window. On the right corner at the bottom, there was about an 1/8" gap. I had my flash light shining there from inside the truck and while standing in the bed could see light. Water was coming in and running down the channel where the glass slides down to the floor. Bringing it in Wednesday for repair.
