I bought a filter change kit with both filters and gasket. They are wix brand. 2 questions, is wix ok to use on these? I was reading and something came up about people having problems with anything other than oem filters. 2nd, it came with a rubber gasket, do I need to add rtv on top of that? Or just throw it on and go? Thanks

Throw away the gasket and make a proper RTV seal on the trans before installing the pan. As long as you bought the correct filter package for your truck (2wd vs 4wd) then the only issue should be making sure the flat filter is properly seated and the o-ring isn't damaged.

Second that, but torque bolts to correct spec (something like 15?) quickly and let the atf cure for a few hours before filling back with fluid. This will minimize the chance it will leak, thus skull ******* your entire job. Look at inline transmission filters as well. If you don't have fluid yet, try redline, it will double the oil change interval or better.

dyi ram fluid flush, you will likely need near 4 gallons, at least 3 gallons and a couple qrts, new rams take like 14 qrts plus transfer case.. Rather then do this every 40 or 50k, I'd get ester fluid and do it once. This guy uses both, gasket and atf on pan side.

Thanks, I do not plan on doing more then drain pan replace filters. I've heard good things about redline atf and may go that route. As long as those filters will be fine to use

I might reconsider that, think about how much work that is as opposed to just attaching a plastic tube to that nub and draining out the torque converter. In fact, I would scrap the filter change and use a break bleeder and drain the tranny and put in a inline filter and then due this guys procedure for the flush before just dropping the pan and swapping 1/2 the fluid. Dropping the pan is all of the work and risk. Just giving you something to consider, all that work and not doing the final step is only giving you 1/2 the fluid.

What mileage’s do filters need changed? What intervals? Easy job or something for the shop to do??

The biggest risk is ruining the pan, as you see that guy he loosens the pan to let the fluid flow over pan, this isn't good. Most guys buy the new magtek pan and swap at the same time, then they have a drain plug for next time. Go inline filtration, you never have to drop the pan again. I haven't done mine yet, but soon, I will attempt to use a brake bleeder to empty the fluid before dropping the pan. The interval, I will be doing mine early because I want esters in my transmission, but I would just go by the stick. If it is some shade of pink when you check from dip stick, I would leave it alone. Soon as you see it go salmon brown, I would swap it, which means you should be checking the transmission fluid every 3 months or so when the truck get 40k miles. I would do it myself, you will not likely got a great job using a shop.

Well my thought is that I want to do filters and then the just the fluid that comes out from the pan. Then in 20k or so I can then do a complete fluid replacement, and not dropping ng the pan. That way filters are still pretty new and I'll have 100% new fluid. Guess I could do it all at once but time and money are factors

Btw I have 53xxx miles on it right now. It's a 2013

It's your equipment, I just was giving you something to consider. Is it still pink when you check the fluid?

Might want to put a little thought into things then, see about inline filters or new pan, or even finding a synthetic media filter that will fit that transmission filter. gl

My truck has 40k. No problems at all and fluid looks good. Just bought it and don’t have the service records. Something I should do now, or is it a waste since it looks good and runs great??

Something to start thinking about anyway, maybe within the next 20k.

Manual says normal duty driving should be changed at 120k, severe or something like that should be 60k I believe. I'm doing it sooner, I just don't trust it to last that long. I've towed some but take it easy on it.

The manual wants the zf fluid which was standard the next year, that is real deal PAO fluid like Redline. But if you had it in your Ram it would be green on the dip stick. I wouldn't be going 120k on the pink stuff. Ram doesn't necessarily want your transmission to last past warranty, think about it. If they did they would have drain plugs and filters that can be changed easily like inline transmission filters, but they don't. They make it hard to change the fluid so guys don't do it and so they buy trucks more often, pure and simple.

The 545/65RFE trans calls for ATF+4, only the 8 speed calls for the zf fluid. ATF+4 is good fluid and will go 40-50k under moderate service with no issues. However changing the filters and fluid won't hurt anything, only help.

They must have had some 8 speeds or thought they would when they made the owners manual for 2013, yes the only fluid for the 6 speed is atf 4.

Yeah 2013 was the first year for the 8 speeds. From what I've heard about the 2013 8 speeds, I'm glad I opted for the 6 speed.
