Other day while driving the truck down an incline, I down shifted to 3rd, several minutes later it up shifted to 4th on its own. Didn't think nothing of it until I tried shifting back to Eco mode. It stayed in 4th. Got down to the flats and I took off from 4th. No codes on the dash. I had a obdII scanner and ran a scan.and got PO750 shift solenoid A. From what I've read on the web, this is a common problem with these tranny and I'll have to change out the shift solenoid in the trans. Anyone have any experience doing this? How long is labor time? Thinking of towING it to a shop, probably a $1k job I'm assuming with oil, filter, solenoid and labor? I live an hour from a good reputable shop/dealership. Towing on a flat bed will probably run $200. Any info will be helpful.

The whole solenoid pack has to be replaced which requires the removal of the valve body. It is doable from a diy standpoint but something like that I recommend getting a trans shop to do. Depending on the price of the solenoid pack, I would say you're right on at $1000.

Would you recommend a trans shop or dealership?

I'd say a good trans shop. If you bring it into a dealer chances are they'll fix it for you but you'll end up paying more plus they'll find more things "wrong" that need to be fixed...

Hi 808ram1500,

Sorry to hear about this! If you end up deciding to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

Is it common for these packs to go out? I just got a replacement trans because mine was doing the 4th gear limp but also was a different code P0734 - Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio. Just wondering now if it was the solenoids and not my clutch packs.

From what I've read it is a common failure for the solenoid to go out. PO705. I don't know in your case though.

Parts on order. All left to buy is the ATF+4. ANY recommendations, or is anything synthetic a go?

The 4th gear incorrect ratio code turned out to be overdrive clutch packs and a cracked flex plate. Adding the increased pressure in the tune just made it fail faster. At 215k it is good I am getting a new trans anyways :)

P0734- I'll have to remember that if I still have this truck by the time it hits 200k+ miles.

The spec for ATF+4 calls for a synthetic base oil so any certified ATF+4 is a full synthetic. Castrol Transmax ATF+4 is a great fluid at a decent price and is readily available at any parts store. If you want to go with the best fluid, Redline C+ is about the best you can find.

If you're doing it yourself I'd go with either Amsoil or Redline fluid. I've used the Amsoil fluid in a couple of different vehicles and had great results. I'm sure the Redline fluid is just as good, maybe better.

My 2010 is in limp mode.....Its been like that over a year now. Don't judge me. LOL. It drives just fine, just don't have the power it usually does. I would fix it if I knew what the problem was. It has been to the dealer and they said I need a new transmission. Supposedly they changed the gear shift solenoid but that didn't fix the issue. Here is how it started....Wife surprised me with an aftermarket remote start for Christmas. I didn't want it but what could I say. Then one day..... No start..... checked battery then starter. replaced starter....took for a test drive and boom...check engine light and limp mode. When it first happened it was worse than it is now. Had the remote start unhooked just to see if they did something hooking it up. It actually ran a little bit better but not 100%. I'm just not sure where to look anymore. Codes started out as P0931, P2706, and P0734 I believe. I'm guessing there is a short on the harness somewhere. Any help is much appreciated!!!
