Hello Guys -

I started trying to remove mine yesterday and I just can't get it off.... I completely removed the fan shroud to give me more room... I have a pipe wrench and small 3lb sledge.... I've take a crowbar and wedged it into the pulley to stop it from turning... I've sprayed PB Blaster on the back side of the nut and been knocking the crap of it but just get it budge....

So.... I want to try and get a straight answer on the direction it turns to come off.... I read 7 or 8 threads on different sites last night looking for this answer and some say it turns clockwise and others say it's counter clockwise....

So.... For the purpose of this question I'm gonna say you are standing in front of the truck looking at the fan / pump. To remove the clutch fan does the nut need to turn toward the passenger side OR drivers side??

The fan nut is reverse threaded, so you turn the nut clockwise (towards the driver side) to take it off.

Perfect... That was the answer I was looking for. I'll give it a try in a little while....

If you still can't get it go to parts store and rent the kit to change it. It makes it an easy job.

What Worked for Me

Used vise grips on the pulley and pipe wrench on the nut. Hit it a few times and it finally turned loose. Knowing I was going the right way was the key so I didn't hold back when I hit it.

Removed mine tonight and was surprised (scared actually) how easy it was to unscrew the nut. I've use a 15" adjustable wrench and it just started turning without applying any force so I didn't have to use my extra long curved pliers to lock the pulley.

Much quieter at startup now, just for that I like this mod.

I am loving it too. Truck is much better when idling as well. I did the ATI dampener pulley at the same time. This is a really good mod for these trucks.

I might have asked this before. I have a 09 so I know I will need to use a V6 fan.

Do I need to get a V6 Fan from the 2009 to 2012s or 2013+ with the penastar?

Did anything suffer from the damper? Lights at night? Steering?

I've got a sound system and HID's for fogs/lows/highs and my lights haven't suffered from the pulley.

If going aftermarket, you need TYC #622320
