My 2013 Ram Bighorn 1500 with 5.7 Hemi and 3.55 gears has a listed tow rate of 8,850 lbs. The same year truck with the same engine but with 3.92 gears has a listed tow rating of 10,300 lbs. Does anyone know if the factory modified the truck with the 3.92 gears in any way to achieve the higher tow rating, such as bigger brakes, heavier suspension, transmission cooler... I will be towing a 9500 lbs trailer and the simple fix would be to change out the 3.55 for the 3.92 gears.

Brakes and suspension are no different. A truck with the 3.92's and the tow package might have a trans collar but I'm not positive.

Nope, it is just the gears, being in higher RPM's allows you to control the weight better. The 3.55's has to much play in the transmission and between gears. You can tow that likely won't hurt anything except your transmission. I would leave it in tow haul mode all the time, and think about swapping gears. I have the 3.55's, my friend has the 3.92's. it is like night and day difference. I can't stand being in the low rpm's all the damn time.

Thank you Butch and Burla for the help on this issue. I haven't been able to get a straight answer from the Dodge Dealership in my town and they don't have any phone numbers to call so I can talk to a factory rep.
