So I did a search and came up empty handed. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 and it has around 44,000 miles on it. Check engine light came on a few days ago so I had it looked at this morning. It was the quickest the dealership could get it in. The engine code was P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input. They informed me that the fuel pump would have to be replaced and it would cost $580!!!! The truck only has 44,000 on it and the fuel pump already has to be replaced? Kinda irritating. Then they tell me that the part is on back order for 1-3 months!!! Anyone else have this issue? Definitely an irritated customer right now.

I had that happen in November. They replaced it for free though. Hope they are treating you with the same customer service.

do you run it low on fuel, often? I try to not let the fuel gauge get below a 1/4 tank. Years ago, I installed an early Holley aftermarket TB fuel injection kit on a Chrysler 300. When it was low on gas, it ran out of fuel on a freeway cloverleaf. It killed that electric pump deader than dead, in just a few seconds.

That's a hefty price tag. Can you get any second opinions?

Yes it definitely is. I called around and everyone is right there with the dealership. Either way, Im screwed with paying at least $570.

How many miles were on your truck?

No sir I don't. I normally fill my truck up between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank. Lowest its ever got is right below a 1/4.

Funny how the factory that builds them is never short parts for 1-3 months.

Take it to a gas tank shop. They can replace that pump and likely do it faster and far cheaper with a quality part too.

I had this happen to my 14 Dodge Ram 1500 as well and I to don't let the gas gauge below a quarter of a tank. Sounds like a common problem. Here in Canada it cost me $1200 or so after rental as well. Was pissed as I had been to 6 other dealers that wanted nothing to do with my truck.

This just happened to me yesterday with my 2014 1500 with only 37,000 miles. I lost my fuel gauge with the CEL. I took it and filled the tank up so I knew I wouldn't run out of gas - fuel gauge fixed itself but the CEL is still on. Soonest the dealer can get me in is next Friday. I've been having a couple other issues that I believe ties altogether to a faulty BCM but the dealer thinks otherwise.

I wonder how much the fuel pump itself is costing. This isn't a hard job by any means unless the gas tank on these Rams are a PITA to drop.

I bought a spare so I can pull it apart and retro fit a Walbro 450LPH in tank pump ;)

So $370ish for labor probably about 4hrs book time. Still too high imo, unless as I mentioned earlier regarding gas tank being a pita to drop.

God I hope not, if there's a pump issue and mine fails under boost, the piston ring land is gonna go with it.

This just happened to my truck yesterday. Was at ¾ full and light came on. Drive till ¼ then light went out while driving. Today it seems ok. Go to dealership at end of week to find out

That's how mine started. It ended up being the fuel level sensor in the fuel pump. The pump itself was fine but that sensor is built
Into it and the whole pump has to be replaced. It took about 2 months to get the pump in. Good luck with what you find out!

Replace the fuel level sensor. It is available separately from the pump. I've replaced about 10 this year, plus however many others' in our shop have too.

Mine went at 23,000 miles. Dealership scanned it on a Wednesday and had me bring it in on Friday. Brought it in at 8am and had it back by 11am.
They did mention to me that my PCM was accessed 17 times.
That was back when I first got my tuner.
