Drove to Cleveland Ohio from Buffalo NY and back today. Hand calculated the mpg using strict start and stop miles and a fully topped off 32 gallon tank of 87 octane fuel. The 5.7 is all stock with the exception of a Vararam Air Grabber intake. I set the cruise control at 72 mph the whole way, which kept the 8spd backed engine at 1500-1600 rpm the entire time.
I am pleased to report that i achieved 20.1 mpg! I triple checked the mileage and fuel consumption, and low and behold.... 20 mpg out of an almost 3 ton 4x4 8 cylinder truck!!
Ive concluded that if you're religious about using the cruise control and driving the trucks in a "normal" manner, and do most of your miles on the highways, anyone can achieve these numbers.
As a side note:
When driving daily to and from work (to include tire spinning stop light to stop light races....
That mileage goes in the dumper. 12.8 mpg to be exact....*****.
Happy holidays all!!
